The two twin or king spare room question

We recently bought a furnished vacation home with three bedrooms. While the master has a regular king bed, the two extra bedrooms each have two twin beds in them. One set is currently pushed together to be used as a king, and has king sized bedding on it, while the other is set up as two twins.

I need to buy new bedding for the beds. For those using this set up, do you have two sets of bedding, in both twin and king sizes? I was just just going to buy twin bedding for the third bedroom, but I already know the first guests to use that room will be a married couple who would appreciate using it as a king.

I have my guest room set up as twins permanently and have not and would not consider investing in king bedding for occasional guests. Twins are so versatile to accommodate all combinations of guests. And I never want married guests to stay so long that twins would be a real problem for them!

Because this is a vacation home, I would expect all guests to be staying a minimum of one week. I would feel awkward making my BIL and SIL stay in separate beds!

OMG! I was just remember MY set up as a teen in the 70's and decided to Google it to see if it still exists! I had this set up, along with 3 firm, bolster pillows to make the set up into a 'sectional' look...it was like having couches in my bedroom! I slept on the fully-exposed twin bed and if a friend stayed over, just pull out the other bed from it's hiding space under the parsons table and you had 2 beds. All you would need to do is find/make a parsons table able to fit a twin bed underneath and then just get 2 twin beds. Should be super easy and cheap!!! I had great interior decor skills even at such a young age and I was forever redecorating my bedroom, usually from a funky store called "house of India". All my paychecks went to buying the cool treasures I would find there. Ah,....memories!!!

I had posted this same question just a short time ago; in fact, at first I thought it was my post popping up again! I have two twin beds. I purchased the lambswool connector that goes between the two beds; it comes with a strap that surrounds and buckles around the beds. I placed a mattress cover over each bed first. Then placed the lambswool piece in the center and buckled it together. I then placed a king sized mattress cover over that. It works great and makes a wonderful king sized bed. Twin beds are actually five inches shorter than kings, but I didn't have any difficulty placing king sized sheets on the bed. I bought my "connector" on line at Comfort House. My parents have two twins on a king platform. They use twin sheets and comforters with them. My dad has always kicked in his sleep, and many years ago they switched from a full size mattress to the two twins, for that reason. DH and I got a new king mattress a few years ago (no box spring, we have a platform bed as well). We figured we had one more king size mattress "in us" before needing to switch to two twins (or twin XL's--thanks for that tip guys!). We prefer flippable mattresses, and realize there will come a time when we can no longer (physically) flip a king mattress. We actually kinda regret this most recent king-sized purchase. If we thought our old matress was heavy, this one has it beat hands down. It is very dense and so freakin' heavy, we can barely flip it now (we're both in our early 50's). That is why we will eventually make the switch.

DancingQueen, If you like the one with circles, here is a similar one from Allbed, in metal instead of wood: I don't like the higher arm that the metal one has but it still has a different look than the typical daybed. I think the lower arms and back is what makes the West Elm daybed look so refreshing. Most daybeds being sold look like baby cribs: This one I imagined was Martha Stewart's prison cell - standard issue cot with pillows added to soften the harsh angles, probably embroidered with dental floss. The other popular style daybeds have is the barn animal feed bin look: And then of course the hospital exam table look: If the daybed will be used as a sofa more often than as a bed for sleeping try getting one that is not twin size, but rather a cot size. It will be more comfortable for seating and still double as a bed for an overnight guest, and not take up so much floor space in a tiny room. This Harry Probber cot sized daybed is not as deep as a twin size. This one here also is a cot size and make seating easier but the cool thing about it is that it opens to form a much larger bed: The bed I posted earlier a few posts back not only is a single size daybed but converts to a queens size sleeping arrangement OR two singles. Plenty of options for overnight guests.

We recently purchased a new king bed that is made up of two extra long twin beds. They always set within a king bed frame. The beds are adjustable so we use TwinXL sheets, but our quilt is king size. When we want to snuggle we just roll to the middle or onto one side. I often lay on hubby's shoulder while he reads. Even though we have separate sheets it's nice to share the quilt for those times.

I have one guest room with two twin beds. When I have guests who like to sleep together, I put a mattress topper over both beds and use a king fitted sheet over the topper. Works for them, works for me. Otherwise, I use twin sheets.

Brilliant idea suero! I'm going to try that. At our vacation house we have one guest room with a queen bed, one with twins and one with a sleep sofa. I have some company coming and I'm sure they would prefer a king. This is a great solution!

Sounds like appropriate bedding would make it work either way you like.

We had twin beds in one of our guest rooms and whenever we had company that wanted a king bed we pushed them together and covered with a king topper and king bedding. However it seemed the twins still wanted to separate a little so DH added a temporary brace to the back of the headboards and that helped keep them together.

I would also buy both bedding - King and Twins. The idea of the toppers is brilliant! We use these types beds when cruising. Never noticed much of a difference than from our King bed at home. We like our own space and do not use the middle - much. :)

What we really like is while traveling in Europe, we have slept in two fully furnished Twin beds that are pushed together. You are next to your spouse sleeping, but have your own bedding and mattress. No worries waking your spouse when tossing and turning.

Frankly though, if I were a guest in someone's vacation home, I wouldn't care what type of bed I was given. I'd just be happy to be there. As a married couple of 35 years, we can survive a few nights apart. I actually prefer having my own space sometimes...but don't tell the DH!

I am glad that we do not have to modify bedding for guest. Since becoming childless when our last left the nest, we have 4 extra guest bedrooms - Double, Double, Queen and Twins. 2 bathrooms with double sinks in each. One set of bedrooms/bath are in a downstairs wing, while the other set is upstairs.. Both completely private. Something for everyone. :)
