Another find this weekend...

We were on our way home from the kids yesterday and stopped at an antique shop. We have been looking for a cupboard for the kitchen to replace a corner cupboard that needed a lot of work. So tickled! This is what we found...now I just have to dig out some of my depression dishes that are packed away to put in the top. You can just see the corner of the table we picked up at an auction last week.

I know this is not the type of decorating many of you have, but it fits into our house just right.

I love it, it's gorgeous. What a find, you should be tickled. I would love more then just a peak at your kitchen too.

I just noticed I was losing a nice variegated upright euphorbia. Those guys are pretty tricky around here. But the euphorbias that hug the ground seem to be very happy. My dudleyas, of course, just love this weather, as do the aeoniums, which have gotten so big I've had to move them further apart so other plant can get some light. My neighbors are allowing me to plant some of my surplus succulents in their barren front yard. I don't think I would have even tried if this winter were as dry as the previous two.

Good news! The ground is bare of snow here on the south coast of MA (of course we still have some gnarly piles of dirty snow)....but the lawn is green! And....I was pleasantly surprised today to see some golfers playing at the New Bedford Country Club! So golf has arrived in southern-most New England and will spread north over the next 4-6 weeks. Even though Nemo's snow is gone, the tree damage is extensive. Although there are lots of broken limbs here and there, what is most amazing is the shear number of uprooted trees. I **had** a very large cherry laurel....about 8 feet tall...full lush and of course evergreen. Nemo pulled the entire thing right out of the ground and then flattened it under 15 inches of heavy cement. I can't even budge it even though the snow is gone and the ground is soft and unfrozen. I guess I will cut it way back to primary branches, dig it up, and replant it. My large southern magnolia lost 2 branches, but overall did much better than I originally thought it did the day after Nemo. It is a bit misshapen now and I am wondering if it is time for a very aggressive pruning next month....to get it all tight and bushy again. I think the main message is....prune prune prune. The more you do it...correctly...the better the odds the tree or shrub will survive these historic events.

Seedmama, That sounds like a great plan to me. After tonight there is some disagreement over Tuesday and Wednesday nights. About 2 days ago both NWS and Accuweather moved the lows for both night into the upper 30's. Of course two days ago the low for tonight was still upper 30's. And now they are saying 33. Anyway they both still had it that way this morning. Then tonight the NWS has changed their forecast for both nights and raised one night up into the 50's. Accuweather is still saying the upper 30's. Hopefully it will be warmer. Unless I see something that really convinces me it will be cold those night plants will be going into the ground starting Sunday. I will put buckets around them. Had to go get a back window for my pu that the mower throw a rock through Wed evening. So while in Garden City did a little looking at the big nursery there and also at Home Depot and Wally World. The nursery owner has said earlier he would have 100 different varieties this year. Didn't have that many today. But I'm sure he may of had close to 50. And most of his plants looked good. Not great but overall as good or better than most I've seen this year. Plants a little leggy and should of been potted up a again. Ended up buying a couple of the bigger ones hoping I can get a few early ones while I'm waiting on my small ones to grow. They are saying 31 there tonight. Every experienced gardener I talked too including a Mennonite lady felt it was still too early. But every where you went you heard those that were buying and planting also. I found a couple of peppers I would like to try. But still at least 2 weeks away from time to plant them. I did end up buying a little 9 pack I felt was too cheap to pass up. Will pot them up and put them under lights as I move tomato plants out to the frames. I'll get my salt and pepper shakers filled and the bacon thawed and be waiting on the maters in June. LOL. Jay

Well another weekend (and a holiday) passed without a phone call. Then I received a text message today from bm saying "I finally have the day off work. Tell ______, _________, and __________ I love and miss them so very much and to call me today." I wanted to vomit! She loves and misses them, yet she goes months without calling them? Her job is not open past 7pm.....so there is no excuse for not calling at night any day. And it was irritating that she can not call them. Instead she wants us to pay for the call??? Our cell has free long distance on the weekends and our home phone has no long distance. So that means we would have to use our cell minutes! So I sent her a text saying that she could call the home phone anytime today, the kids will be home all day. No call yet-that was 5 hours ago.

WOW...you and your DH excel at the "find" of the weekend :) Lucky you ! I am looking for a pie safe. I could have gotten a wonderful one a few years ago..it was just like my Grandmother's ...but it was $400 and I was cheap...now I would give that easily if I could find one as lovely as the one I passed on. Sigh..there are no place here that even have them at all anymore. Maybe I need to make a road trip...??? Do you ever see a lovely one ? c

oldhouse1, thank you. Right now everything is torn up to make room for the cupboard. We had the baker's table from last week sitting in the laundry room as well. Had to take the screen door of the dining room porch door and move the dining room table to get the large corner cupboard out. So all of the "stuff" that was in that cupboard is laying around as well as all the "stuff" from the baker's table, as we took that out to the garage as well. Basically I just got everything put back and now need to go through all the "stuff". :-)

trailrunner, actually I looked at a pie safe this weekend. Was considering it for that spot. But decided the cupboard was a better use of space. I run across them every so often. Some in better shape than others. The one this week was nice but also pricey. We picked up the cupboard for $200 and felt it was a good deal. All we needed to do was clean it up a little and put it in place.

Cyn427, I have posted photos in the past, but quite a lot has changed since then. After I find a home for everything and get it cleaned up, I will take some new photos.

That road trip would have to be to Wisconsin! :-)

No antique stores in the part of VA where the kids are :(. But WI...now that is a possibility ! My biking friend is in Sobeiski...right outside of Green Bay and we keep making plans to go up and visit his home and his "40" up in the woods. So will keep you posted ML !

mary lu, we are on year 3 of a DIY project on our 1840 Canadiana home and during that period we have worked non stop. I understand well the mess involved in these projects. Everyone knows the rules, call before you come. Your kitchen looks very charming. I look forward to seeing it when you get everything back in order. It looks like my kind of kitchen. Love the color too.
