Ok, so here is our latest plan. We are going to probably make the doors on the large cabinet/pantry (36" x 15") on the left taller so that a broom and swiffer can be hung on the inside of the door (the KD said this will work... and that the Container Store sells something to hang brooms. Anyone have any experience with this?). Also, we are going to add another shelf to the open bookcase that facing the desk come down a little lower (the last shelf will be about 18" from the desk. I will put baskets with the kids art/school supplies in the shelves and i may even store my sewing basket here. Lastly, I think I will ask the KD to square off the open shelves that are at the end of the wall cabinets on the right-hand side. This is match the corner/trim on the pantry as well as the straight lines throughout the house. Let me know if you have any other ideas. Thanks!

My guess is the odor is coming from the walls. As worthy mentioned, I'd think the epoxy flooring is non-porous. For cleaning, use only products made for kennels and specifically for cat urine. You can try cleaning the floors and wall with the enzyme, let it dry thoroughly, then seal with shellac. Before spending money on replacing the floor, I'd try to determine if the walls are the problem. You should buy a black light first, since it will show you the areas that are soiled. Remember that when using the enzyme, you need to let it soak for hours for it to work well. In addition, don't use other non-enzyme products on the odor since it prevents the enzyme products from working efficiently.

Jane, I was not attempting to discourage you from painting your floor. I just wanted to share what I learned through my own experience, because you had mentioned that you once considered using tile. Also, whoever buys the house might choose a floating floor and the paint wonÂt make a difference. Although I decided not to use paint on my porch/sunroom, I plan to go ahead with painting the plywood floor in the finished basement. Like you, I am contemplating a beachy (or summery) look, especially since I am on the coast. I thought about a distressed white or a gray similar to weathered shingles or weathered wood (ThereÂs so much of it around here). The patterned floors look great and seem like fun. The possibilities are endless. You can use stencils or sponging. You can also paint a faux area rug. This year I donÂt have the time or patience to attempt a pattern, but I am trying to learn decorative painting and maybe soon I can acquire the skills to attempt a pattern. For now, the painted floor is something inexpensive to go under area rugs. IÂm no help with a color scheme, but your wicker serving cart is great and will probably look good no matter what colors you choose. With area rugs, lots of plants and that lovely wicker cart, the floors donÂt have to be noticeable unless the paint looks really good.
