Color to warm up taupe couch
Comments (18)Beautiful family room, kwest. You have made some great decor decisions so far. selecting a neutral sofa, rug and walls give you a great base to accessorize. To warm up the room, I suggest adding in burgundy, orange and deep chocolate brown. I love the others suggestion to add a small overlay area rug. If that's to your liking, get that first. Then you can pull out the colors for the pillows and throws. The windows call for a patterned fabric. Perhaps a somewhat neutral color scheme to work with the walls and floor. That way you can change out the pillows and throws as the seasons change. Window treatments are more of a staple than an accent. Happy decorating!...See Morewhat color paint would complement black an taupe tile in a bathroom?

Comments (19)Kristal, don't sweat this! Your couch, floor and kitchen all fall into a neutral, contemporary vibe, so you can do pretty much what you want by adding some fun colors and sticking to the kinda-contemporary world. The only thing that would be a stretch would be if you suddenly decide to go for an authentic Victorian look or off on some sort of Spanish Medieval tangent! My suggestion would be that you plunk that new couch into the space, and then go buy yourself a nice, luxurious throw (the kind that people drape over a couch) in colors that you really like. Doesn't have to be fancy, you can get them from $8 on up to whatever. Bring the throw home and drape it over the couch. See what you think. If you like how it looks, there's the start of your scheme and plus, you've already got a throw! If you hate it, take it back, easy peasey. You'll probably already be past this stage by the time you read this comment, but if you're still feeling a bit deer in the headlights, give it a try...it's an easy, low $$$ way to get started!...See MoreWall color makes me hate couches? Comments (17)So interesting to think about the implications of lighting - I will definitely have to play around with different bulbs! Gracie01, the art is actually a 4 piece panel (antique, Chinese, gold w multicolor cherry blossoms, birds, etc) I agree that's not showing as such on the monitor. Pillows are gold in same fabric as chair on opposite wall. Second set of pillows has a creamy background with green-ish geometric pattern - again, absolutely agree it's not appearing that way at all through these pics. I'm realizing that part of my issue is that I never really wanted yellow walls to begin with, and sort of let the painter (whom I actually think is great) influence the decision to do this Greenmount Silk. I'd actually prefer something like a BM Gray Mirage at 50% or so...as it is, the blue against the yellow still looks garish to me. I don't want to change the window treatments, unfortunately, as they were custom made for this space, and price-y. I really appreciate all of the helpful suggestions!...See Morelindac
