Sorry, I do not have a digital camera. I intend on getting one. I need someone who will help me shop for one and teach me how to download pics to a computer or website. LOL. I don't have kids or grandkids to teach me any of this new stuff and believe it or not most of my friends do not own a computer or are as clueless as I am about most of the features. Getting a digital camera is on my list of "things to do". I try to will post pics here, and there was another thread around that had a pink and black bathroom discussion I will revisit too. My bathroom looks like it was put in by the same guy that did yours. Ha. I have the black bullnose tile edging with the thin black tile line a few inches down from the bullnose edging. The same black soap dishes and towel rod. Same mirror. I do not live anywhere near you so I don't think the same builder actually did the work. I'm sure this was a popular look back then. I see your curtain rod looks like it was installed so that the curtain hangs inside the tub. I moved mine out a few inches so my curtain hangs outside of it and hangs straight. You have an incadescent fixture there that may interfer with this sort of change though. Mine does not have that. My sink has been replaced, but yours look to be in excellent condition and is very cute. My old tub is not stained but has lost it's shine. I checked into replacing it and doing so is sure to damage the old tiles in the process of removal. I checked into the thing where they come in an install a high grade acrylic (I think) shell over the existing one so the original tub does not have to be removed. It is still very expensive to do though ($1000 if I want black). I want to get a new toilet seat and I have looked everywhere for a black one. Nada. The one I have now is a high quality, vintage, black mother-of-pearl look one with chrome hinges. The seat is starting to peel underneath. If you know of any sources for the old style mother-of pearl (even in grey or white) please let me know. I can't even find a cheap plastic black color one in the stores as a replacement and I don't want pink. My vintage bathroom did not have even a single electric outlet in it. I guess everyone in those days shaved with blades and of course all the things we have now like electric toothbrushes and waterpiks and blowdryers did not exist. I had to add outlets. Here is some trivia that I posted in the Decorating Forum a while back about pink and black vintage tile: http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/decor/con1105011230798.html It seems that the old vintage, black tile has the possibility of being made from radioactive materials. I have not had mine tested, and and not unduly alarmed about it, but I am going to do more research on this when it comes to remodelling my tiled kitchen, and make a choice about removing it from the kitchen that I spend so much time in, which is not like the bathroom. I am going to recommend the Restoration Hardware color palate for paints again. Great "old house" colors.

And the grey tile for herringbone is lovely too. I actually was set on doing a herringbone floor at first until it became more difficult to source a 3x20 or 4x24 length tile (I prefer a very long and lean look with a herringbone). Not sure if this will help you differentiate/decide between them, but the herringbone in that size feels a bit more modern to me, whereas the marble hex feels more classic/luxurious but I'm sure either choice will be beautiful on your floors! mrsshayne & grannysmith18: Thanks for sharing your experiences (I've been researching the heck out of those who've lived with penny tile floors to see if they ended up loving/hating them; interestingly, I found much more info on the black penny tile look but not a lot regarding white (except not to use white grout). Yeah, I think the amount of grout and worrying about it getting dirty is what's holding me back. Also, whether having such a large floor area of penny tile will be visually overwhelming instead of soothing and inviting. ____________ Latest Update: I actually returned the original 12x24 grey Porcelain (it was beautiful but was a bit rough in texture which I wasn't sure I wanted underfoot in the bathroom) and ended up buying a White Penny Porcelain mosaic with Mapei Flexcolor CQ Frost grout for the floors. However (>_<), I still can't help but have that nagging sense that this isn't the "right floor" yet... I realize I'm doing the penny or considering hex tiles because I feel like I owe it to the Victorian gods to be historically accurate but at the same time, if we could just have a smooth, one surface (minimal grout lines), white or light grey colored, easy to clean floor, I would. In other words, I feel like I'm trying to put in penny or smaller hex cause that's what it seems like I'm "supposed" to do, but I can tell that I don't actually love them (except for the marble hex which is out of our budget, since we have over 100 SF to tile) which is probably why I ruled them out in the first place, sigh. I think that's going to be a lot more PURPLE on the wall that you're probably expecting. I do like the idea--just with a lot more gray. My husband is the opposite. He doesn't even notice colors. We once had a fight when I asked him to take something to the "blue bathroom" and he thought I was ridiculous to expect him to know which bathroom that was and that I was trying to pull some kind off fast one by referring to it as such. At the time we were in a 60s house with all original bathrooms. The whole bathrooms all had floor and wall tile (4x4 tile wainscoting to 4') that were one color with the walls above the tile and even ceiling painted the same color--because what a room with smurf blue everywhere needs is more blue. One was mint green, one smurf blue, and one was buttercup yellow. And the sinks, toilets, shower/tub were also the same color as the tile. Most memorable retort: "The walls are blue! The ceiling is blue! The toilet is blue! Even the toilet paper holder is blue! How can you not know that bathroom is blue???" Nope. Didn't know and couldn't believe that it was normal to remember something like that.

Thanks for the help here! Right now, was planning on SW Repose Gray for the master bedroom, but open to updating. There will be a walk through closet that leads to the bathroom so I'm fine if the closet & bathroom are a different paint color. The tile for the rest of the bathroom floor will be this Happy Floors Kursaal slate-looking tile, and the teak vanity will be right outside of the walk-in shower. I'm likely leaning towards light gray or blue for the bathroom - potentially continuing SW Repose Gray, BM Gray Owl (recommended above), BM Solitude, BM Mineral Ice. Alternatively, I could embrace the bright white and going with SW HIgh Reflective White... but I just feel like throwing another shade white in the mix could be tough to navigate. Appreciate folks helping me think through this...
