purple is not too much and white is not too boring

you can have very pretty space with both, it will be just pretty in a different way

take your light, both natural and artificial, into account

say i do prefer warmer tones in the bathroom, because they make most people look better

(not everybody..some can get away with any color out there..))

I'd prefer light lavender to white for example

In short I'd think in terms not only "how the bathroom will look" but also "how I will look in the bathroom"

this egocentrical approach usually yields great result when it comes to paint..:)

I suggest..pick your purple or lavender. ask the store to make samples when you have three quarter of the color, half of the color, stuff like that. And sample them on your walls. And check them in your light both in the day and in the evening. Maybe both you and your husband will reach the point when you meet..both feel comfortable with the color. You wouldn't know until you try and see it in your space, with your light, with your material. You might find you like white, he might find he likes purple:) You both might fall in love with barely there grayish lvender..

Whatever you choose-both colors should be pretty and easy to work with. Elegant space. Touches of black..an orchid in a pot..art in black or golden frame..

I think that's going to be a lot more PURPLE on the wall that you're probably expecting.

I do like the idea--just with a lot more gray.

My husband is the opposite. He doesn't even notice colors. We once had a fight when I asked him to take something to the "blue bathroom" and he thought I was ridiculous to expect him to know which bathroom that was and that I was trying to pull some kind off fast one by referring to it as such. At the time we were in a 60s house with all original bathrooms. The whole bathrooms all had floor and wall tile (4x4 tile wainscoting to 4') that were one color with the walls above the tile and even ceiling painted the same color--because what a room with smurf blue everywhere needs is more blue. One was mint green, one smurf blue, and one was buttercup yellow. And the sinks, toilets, shower/tub were also the same color as the tile.

Most memorable retort: "The walls are blue! The ceiling is blue! The toilet is blue! Even the toilet paper holder is blue! How can you not know that bathroom is blue???"

Nope. Didn't know and couldn't believe that it was normal to remember something like that.

Admittedly, I stink at color, but I think:

- White will indeed be too boring.

- Purple will be too cold. Rather than purple, I'd go with a different shade of blue -- something darker, something more light.

- But what I'd really prefer is something warmer.

What about the same pastel shade in a coastal blue? It lends itself to a beachy theme.

Having had a deep purple bedroom at one point, purple does look great and I like the color you picked. If you are worried it is overwhelming, one idea is to only paint 2 large walls purple. The room will be undeniably purple, but leaving the room half white will help balance it out. You could have the DH pick the accent color (like a manly green) as a compromise.

BM Revere Pewter. Its greige. We just did a bathroom with a similar color scheme. Found the color on Pinterest. Our cabinets are BM Gavlston Gray.

Milly Rey, I am laughing at your description of hubby's lack of notice of color. This may indicate color blindness.

Sandpapertongue, I am agreeing with Carol Fontana to try the greige. Give it a little warmth to try out. If you don't like it, try Aprilneverends' approach. I could see a gray with a touch of lavender in there.

The lavender color looks very relaxing to my eyes and is a nice contrast to the gray cabinet. I love it. Great job.

Looks good at this point, yet I am wanting to see more layering of color. What else are you bringing in there to color the space?
