Cabinet maker nailed through drawer fronts
Comments (6)"Especially if these are custom cabinets." Folks - just an aside...... "custom cabinets" don't necessarily mean that they are super terrific, high quality boxes, drawers and hardware + all the new gee wiz features - or that they are better than a factory made cabinet line. It all has to do with the specifications. There a fella around the ATL that will whip you out a cabinet any size you want in about a week. It'll be made with 1/2 exterior grade plywood, glued and nailed together and any drawer you want will have $3 a pair white epoxy runners. You can paint or stain em as you like. At first blush they meet the "custom" moniker because they are all wood and can be had in any size. Now, any of you want to tell me that they are better than a factory (non custom) cabinet from say Bultahup or another German manuf. that only come in two heights, limited widths and are made out of that "plastic partical board junk" [sic]. ?...See MoreUF or NM wire for running through a garage?
Comments (4)I think you're looking at the wrong item. THHN is an individual insulated conductor, not a cable assembly. It's pulled through conduit. NM is fine for garages. It needs no special protection as long as it follows the sides of the timbers and is fastened securely. If it is fastened to a wall or the face of the timbers where it would be exposed to possible damage, you should sleeve it in thinwall conduit or similar for protection. If the oven is rated to install with zero clearance I wouldn't worry about cable behind it. Otherwise, I'd maintain at least rated clearance. But that's not an authoritative statement and your local inspector will have the final word....See MoreNails Through Switch and Outlet Boxes
Comments (5)Those boxes are metallic? It is virtually certain that the manufacturer of the boxes intended them to be mounted with nails. Some even included the nails which were "captured" to the boxes. Some have the nail passing through the interior of the box- by design. Non-metallic boxes do not have nails in the interior of the box in order to insure that no conductive material other than the "wires" exits the box. The one thing you do not tell us is why you have decided that these nails must be removed....See Morewire through studs
Comments (7)Yes there is. 300.4 Protection Against Physical Damage Where subject to physical damage, conductors shall be protected. (A) Cables and Raceways Through Wood Members (1) Bored Holes In both exposed and concealed locations, where a cable- or raceway-type wiring method is installed through bored holes in joists, rafters, or wood members, holes shall be bored so that the edge of the hole is not less than 32 mm (1 1/ 4 in.) from the nearest edge of the wood member. Where this distance cannot be maintained, the cable or raceway shall be protected from penetration by screws or nails by a steel plate or bushing, at least 1.6 mm ( 1/ 16 in.) thick, and of appropriate length and width installed to cover the area of the wiring....See Morebus_driver
