Generator Application Advice Needed

Hello-

I purchased a Briggs-Stratton 5500 w / 8250 starting watt gas generator today. After reading the manual and a few online things, I still have some questions. I was looking for some advice tailored to my application.

I do not intend on hooking it up to a transfer switch nor my furnace.

In case of emergency, I intend on running a few space heaters, small amount of light bulbs and periodic use of microwave, refrigerator and television if neccessary.

When used it will be located in the middle of my driveway locked to the hitch of my truck. I was thinking of makeshifting a shelter using the tailgate and some tarp to use if neccessary. I have 100 feet of 12AWG extension cord that will go under garage door and into home from attached garage.

When not in use I intend on keeping the gas tank fullish with stabilizer in the garage and taking it out to fire up once a month.

I have 2 portable heaters, a radiant electric heater 1500w and an oil radiator type heater 1500 watt that I am unsure if they are the best option.

What would be best portable heating device for emergency?

Shelter ideas for generator?

Usage tips/ideas? Power strip from extension cord?

Does what I describe above seem OK?

Merry Christmas!
