oven wiring again!

I am working on the same double oven and the feeder is #6 4-wire and the wire pigatil from the oven has #12 for the two legs and #8 for the equipment ground and #16 for the neutral. I used polaris connectors for all the leads except for the neutral. The polaris connector was not listed for wire smaller than #14. So what is the best way to connect #16 to #6 wire. I have some blue wirenuts that would probably be sufficient for the neutral connection since the load is light, what would be the best? I know the insulation is rated high and the wire length is shorter, but i just don't understand why the oven maker used #12 for the two legs when this thing needs a 40 amp circuit.
