Why? Unless you need to remove the second switch for construction or to use it for something else just leave.

There are at least eight different ways to wire three way switches. It depends on which method was used as to how you would remove it.

If this is something you must do, the quick & dirty mechanics are simple:

1. Turn off the power and verify that the circuit is de-engerized.

2. Disconnect all three wires from the switch to be removed, taking care to remember which one is the "common" (typically connected to the black or darkest-colored switch terminal screw).

3. Use a wirenut to connect the old common wire to one of the other two wires that were connected to the switch. (It doesn't matter which of the two wires you choose, except that the choice will affect whether the surviving three-way switch is up for "on" and down for "off" or the other way around. If you don't like how that works out, use the other wire.)

4. Securely cap off the unused wire with a wirenut.

5. Install a blank cover on the switch box.

This process is reversible if you change your mind--the original wire runs remain intact.

It might be nice for posterity's sake if you were to leave a brief note on the back of the cover explaining why the box has no switch or other fixture.

The above method will work. But why? The box is still there only it has a blnk cover instead of a switch. I don't see the point of wasting effort to do it.
