Chesterfield sofa comfort?

I'm replacing the sofa in our den/living room. I want leather because it fits our lifestyle better and really want a Chesterfield. I have two possibilities, both made in the USA, one with two cushions on the seat and one with a tufted seat. I can't find any tufted seat sofas locally to sit on. The cheaper sofa ($1000 less) is tufted. I own several of this manufacturer's sofas so I know the overall quality is excellent.

For those with a leather Chesterfield with tufted seat, how is the comfort level? I don't want this as a lounging sofa but I don't want to feel like I'm sitting on rocks.

I don't know about how it would feel, but I do think it would be a cleaning nightmare. Getting dust, pocket debris and little bits of dirt out of all those tufts would drive me crazy. Just something to think about. I've only had one tufted sofa, and swore never again - and that just had tufts on the back and arms.

Do you have pictures or links to the sofas you are considering?

I've never sat in a chesterfield style sofa so I can't comment on the comfort.

But looking at the style of those type sofas, they don't look like something that would be very comfortable for lounging-I'm only referring to the height of arms that usually look to be the same height of the back--But I could be wrong.

I'm assuming the couches you are looking at are not at a store for you to try. ??

I had a leather chesterfield. I think the reason people dump them is because the dirt that gets into the button areas is a real pain to clean. If you have kids, animals etc, they aren't very practical. I finally got rid of mine. But they are quite nice aren't they?

I thank you all for your inputs. I think I am the only person in real-life (not online) who understands the beauty of the H&M Chesterfield. My DH and friends supported lindac's observation that the Chesterfield does not look like a lounging type of sofa. Yes, I agree, but I love it!!! So I've been out-voted. We are getting some generic leather sofa. Let's see how long this thing lasts... Someday...someday, my love (Chesterfield)... Again, thank you. Amanda

Is the room for family TV watching only or is it also for entertaining? If it is for the family and the TV, I would get the sheepskin chair I posted earlier, and I would get a big square or round tufted ottoman for a coffee table/foot rest. If it is also used for entertaining, I would pick a chair with some Hollywood Regency glam to it, or at a minimum velvet in a rich color and a glass or faux-stone coffee table with a heavy-ish gold or silver toned base. In addition to painting the media unit (and removing the curtain behind the TV) I suggest taking everything off the mantle except the candlesticks. There is a lot of dramatic fixed things in the room now, so having that space above the mantle as a breathing space is fine. The decorative fireplace and moulding is enough decoration for that side of the room. Maybe eventually you’ll spot a perfect black and white drawing for that space, framed in white. This would make a nice emergency seat or a nice side table for a chair in your room, depending on the chair. It needs a tray on top to make it useful as a place to set down a glass of liquid.

Okay. Here's the sofas. Both are smaller. The more expensive one is 78 inches long, which fits better. The cheaper one is 81 inches.
Sofa #1 - More money, 2 cushions, smaller

Sofa #2 - Less money, tufted seat, larger

I guess the thing going for the second one is less money.:)

Dee, I was very fortunate to buy my Hancock and Moore leather 'Kent' chesterfield from Craigslist. I had admired the style and I adore mine. It's firm, without a doubt, but I can fall asleep on this in a flash. I have three dogs, so the little tufts are a bit of a pain, but to me, having this wonderful piece of furniture makes it well worth it. Saving over 5k from the local price helps a lot!

Thanks my3dogs. I was hoping you'd chime in since I knew you had one.

I'm leaning toward the cushions versus the tufted seat. I like the way the tufted looks better, but everyone is right about the cleaning factor. My dogs don't go on the furniture, but the cat does. Hmmm, cat hair in many small holes. I can see my future with a damp rag in my hand constantly....

A Chesterfield sofa is a classy classic!! Notice that the more expensive one had 3 legs...
As for cleaning? I mean really....if it's leather? how bad can it be?
I think it's a great choice and any I have sat on are very comfortable.
Go for it....but the more expensive one..
