Any good book explaining knob-and-tube wiring?

Hi,

I'm currently reading David Shapiro's "Your Old Wiring" in order to understand how to evaluate my home's wiring, which is mostly knob and tube.

His book is very good and covers a lot; however, he does state that he won't go into how to evaluate knob-and-tube wiring very much.

I'm not trying to actually *do* any wiring. What I'm trying to do is evaluate the condition of what I'm seeing, and I'd like to understand the theory/background behind the splices and how the old-timer professionals would have approached wiring the house with the k&t. I believe the house was built with gas lighting originally (because there are remnants of the gas light pipes in the basement and attic), and they must have added the k&t wiring later on in the house's life.

Any other books that you think would be helpful? Ones with illustrations or photos would be great, that illustrate the installation practices.

Thanks in advance!
