Knob and tube replacement question

The consensus seems to be that knob and tube wiring is probably ok, if contained within a wall with no insulation, and not overloaded. I have a good deal in the basement which I can easily reach, so I intend to replace it, and am fairly experienced with wiring, but have one question. What is the safest way to make the connection between the knob and tube wire where it enters the wall, and the new wiring I'll install in the basement joists?

Thanks!
