Hi, I am hoping to change out the Lutron Diva switches we put up for our recessed lights (aren't those switches the ones with little lites and the presets and stuff?) DH loves them (electrical engineer), but I feel they are a little too complicated (one click to shut off, another click to bring it up to preset brightness, then second click to bring up to full brightness). I can see difficulties with people coming in to help in the kitchen and getting frustrated, I even have a hard time with them and they've been up for a month and half. I think we are going to try just a sliding/on/off switch instead. Also, that being said, just be careful, the colors that look like almond in both brands are different from each other by a little (one is yellower) if I recall correctly. Hope this helps.

Yup. The 6560M-A on its pdf data sheet says explicitly "For exhaust and bathroom fans use the 6260M-A" Looks like you have to pull new wire to get a neutral. The reason for two models is that the electronic switch needs more over-voltage protection if there is an inductive coil (like a motor winding) in the circuit. When you interrupt the current the inductance tries to keep the current flowing for a fraction of a second, and with the electronic switch opening it sees a lot more than the normal voltage. Incandescent loads are a bear to turn on current-wise, but turn off very meekly so their switch circuit doesn't need to be as robust voltage-wise. There must be some trick they use to run the timer without a neutral that only works when the load is well behaved.

Smithy, you'd be impressive if you had a clue. Since you don't have a clue you are just another annoying kid who thinks they have a clue. Not nearly all require a neutral. I far prefer the look and finish of Lutron switches. Their slide dimmers function better for me. Sadly, I went with Leviton because I was under the false impression that I could dim my CREE LED recessed kitchen fixtures with them. I let that one desire drive the choice for the whole house because I have "matching issues" around things like that. Now, I am getting clear that the LEDs just won't dim well and I am sorry I went with Leviton everywhere. I know this will be one of those things I "don't see" after a while, but right now, I am feeling a bit burned. Go see both switches, side by side, and you'll certainly see the difference. Make sure you get them out of their packaging. One small good thing is that the Leviton white is closer to my trim color. But, I still would be happier with the Lutrons...
