These chairs came with the sofa. I paid $80 for the set and $107 to have them cleaned. The sofa is a bit shorter than I would like. There are holes in the legs and I assume there should be castors there. I like it for the shape and my feet touch the floor when I sit on it.

I love your furniture. What an amazing deal. I tend to think that the bright maps may be a tad too much. I purchased an old print of George Washington that came from an old elementary school for my DH so I love items from schools. I wouldn't hesitate to try hanging it there to see how it looks.

Holly-kay! You are so smart! I think I will try my kindergarten silhouette behind it. I also have both of my kid's silhouettes from kindergarten. It might work! I have modern wallpaper over plaster walls. I found out command hangers don't stick to modern wallpaper so I have to give careful thought to pounding nails in the wall.

oakleyok, yes, here in my computer room. Maps and globes everywhere! I've gotten into genealogy and use the maps all the time. Doesn't do a thing for the décor in here but décor wasn't ever the reason for this room!

Wonderful old set! It's too bad about the stains. I would put several decorative pillows in a solid color against the back to draw the eye away from the stains. And throws are very "in" right now, and so I would drape one over the back or an arm, wherever you need most stain coverage. That should do until you can reupholster. A small area rug in front of the sofa might also work to give the eye something to see.

I agree about the maps. Your LR needs something else.

I can't really picture the map there but the silhouettes? YES! I think they could be perfect.

Don't use a blanket to cover it up. Do this instead.

And yes, also -- throw pillows on the wonderful sofa. Find a couple that have the same predominant color as your map, plus the color of the sofa.

That door almost found a new home last year. I'd messed and messed with weather stripping for 2 years and nothing was working. I bought a steel replacement door and got it painted and ready for my handy man. He got tied up and didn't get here before it got too cold to have a 3x6 ft hole in my wall so I was going to put window plastic over it until I repositioned some double stick tape on the window trim and it pulled the paint off. I redoubled my efforts to find exactly where the cold air was coming from and discovered the bottom of the door had a little crack where it met the side. Duct tape on the outside. that didn't do it either. Then I thought to try a door stopper, the kind that has the foam inside the sleeve. Worked like a charm. So door stays. No double stick tape.

Here's part of an email I sent to a friend the day I found the sofa set. Of course the cleaning didn't go exactly as planned. As soon as I saw them in the daylight I wondered if I had done the right thing. Any guesses on age? OK, here's the announcement email:

A friend who worked in the same building as I did went road tripping with me Friday. We hit every consignment, second hand and "antique" store within 30 miles. And then we missed one I didn't know about! But the good news is, I finally found an OLD settee/sofa for a price I could afford. On our first stop, I ran into, yes as in tripped over, a set of old chairs and right with them, a small sofa!! Upholstery was good just a bit dirty on the sofa seat, not sure about the chairs.
My brain exploded when I saw the sofa since I've been looking forever for one I liked that didn't cost more than a new one and that didn't need to be recovered. So we cleared off all the extra stuff that had been piled on it so I could lay down to see if I fit ;-) Everything was good. I looked for a price tag and couldn't find one. As I was
standing next to one of the chairs while we looked at the sofa I put my hand on the back and there was a price tag; I thought for the chair $79.99. And then I read the WHOLE tag. 3 pcs. $79.99. I took that tag off that chair so fast it's probably still rocking! It was just like the day I found the school maps! I couldn't even form a sentence! I took the tag to the check out so that nobody could take my sofa set! Small sofa, rocking chair and straight chair that I can't even remember what it looked like. But they're mine. I think I will go get them tomorrow. I called ServePro to ask about cleaning them and tomorrow might be the day if everything on their schedule stays on schedule. I didn't even think to have my friend take a picture with her phone, didn't measure them either. But since my guardian angel found them, they must be right. I had dogs boarding that weekend so I knew I would have money. Everything was falling into place.

Hang the maps. If it doesn't work you can take them down.

If the map is brightly colored, it will tend to make the sofa look dirty. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER put bright against dingy unless you want it to look even dingier. Look for something "browned" or "greyed" down. You know the effect of a decoupaged item has, that "aged" but wonderful look. I would stay way, way, way from the map unless it was an antiqued one in muted tones. You can get color with muted tones, not bright shiny. Yikes.

I was in Goodwill one day looking at vases. One caught my eye as a bit different than the usual FTD glass. Picked it up, turned it over and saw "Baccarat" stamped on the bottom. It had a 3.99 tag. I had a coupon for 20% off a $10 purchase. So I scooped up a couple more items and checked out. It's this one.

Paint! Of course. ShadesofIdaho did it a few years ago and I was flabbergasted! Since it looks so bad anyway, what do I have to loose? I doubt I will get it done this fall so will have all winter to think about a color.

Not saying that I like the look. I have the settee in my "department store" storage room. It's waiting to either be sold or taken by one of my children or nieces. Hopefully soon. There is also a matching Grandfather chair.

I need another chair. The two that came with the set are not living room chairs in my opinion. I like the craigslist chair but I don't like the price at all. I also found a couple of rugs but they are just barely too small. The room evolves. The carpet I have now is on the replace list. Debating what to do on that floor. I think the floor under the carpet is just the wide planks and I think they are painted gray in the middle and brown around the edge. Been a long time since I've seen them.

I have to get out more and look around for some antiques, I like to buy furniture that lasts a long time.

The couch isn't too big, they sell beautiful throws that are sooo soft this time of year.

The things you see in the background of that photo (not sure how you are making things out back there. I know what they are and can barely tell. LOL) are of my parents home before we sold the house. My "department store" is not that large or fancy.

The Grandfather chair is really old (passed down 4 or 5 generations), but in great condition. It has the grapes, like your chair.

The sofa is old, but bought new at the time, by my grandmother when she was setting up house as a newlywed. She also bought a matching Lady's chair. Neither have the grapes.

All 3 pieces were once red velvet. My mother had the settee and large chair reupholstered to go in her living room. The smaller red chair remained in a bedroom.

The piece to the immediate right is a buffet that belongs to my daughter. Her DH bought it at an auction for a dresser. Worked well until my mother passed away and she inherited her bedroom suite, along with a better dresser.
