Maybe an interesting bowl filled with decorative balls or green apples, etc, etc??

I looked around the house and found 2 white pitchers and a cobalt blue pitcher. I also found a blue and white transferware? salad plate and bowl. These were in my kitchen but I don't need them there. I am not sure if they would work or how but thought I would show you just the same.

Dixiedo, thanks for the idea...hmmm.. I may have a bowl that I can use somewhere...let me look.

I would also add some greenery. Maybe a small cache pot with an ivy trailing over the side of the table.

Kahlanne, Love the pic of your children, but I think I might add the tansfer plate to the lamp and framed pic on the dresser top itself. Try placing the pitchers on the right side of the dresser top and see what that looks like. Greenery is always nice too if you have some. Just play around with what you have. Take pix to post of each of them. You may find one that speaks to you just in doing this. You might be surprised how easy it is. Then again, seems sometimes nothing works. But you'll get there. I promise!

To my eye, the wall hangings could look smashing if grouped closer and taller over the table.

My computer and my Photoshop program are having HUGE issues right now, but I managed to cobble this together using a few of your elements:

I would leave everything exactly as you have it, and use the empty space on the right for holiday displays. Especially since you have children in the house... I think it would be something the kids would really look forward to changing out. Look on the Holidays board for some great ideas. Right now they have all kinds of great Fall/halloween ideas, then you can move right into the winter holidays, spring, valentines, Easter, etc. It would be such a fun tradition!

Do you use the chest as a landing strip-- a place for keys, mail, dog leads, etc? If so, I'd leave the top alone, with perhaps a decorative tray to contain the items, and perhaps a vase of flowers.

I went to the store and grabbed a couple of things. I am so horrible accessories and even worse with floral things. LOL. I will take pics of my finds asap.

Justgottobeamom, thanks so much. I love pics of my gang and like to have them everywhere. I tried to place the plates on the lamp but it won't work. The base is too narrow and slanted.

Renofan, so you think I should move the pics. Hmm...I will give it a go this afternoon when dh gets home. I make too many holes in the wall. LOL. I know he is going to fuss and say leave them alone. Men! I like the arrangement that you show. Otherwise, do you think any of my new items work?

Bestyears, that does sound really fun. I picked up a blue pumpkin which ties into the blue ceiling. Actually my 7 yr old dd found it and wanted me to add it. I also found some other items that are more fall. Will post pics soon. I am sure I will change things out seasonally though.

Ideefixe, funny you should ask. Up until now, the foyer has held all of our furniture from remodel rooms. LOL. We couldn't even use the door. Uggh! Now that those rooms are finished, I want to finish this room and have it look stunning like I know it can. (maybe someone else might have to decorate it though.) To answer your questions, yes, I was thinking of the basket to drop our keys in. We don't really have a problem dropping clutter when we come in so I don't worry too much about that. However it would look nicer to have a small basket for our cells and keys. I was thinking the vases could hold flowers. Oh, we have a mirror on the opposite wall with pegs that hold our dog leads, etc.

OK, I know you didn't ask about your wall art but I have to agree with renofan. That's the first thing I noticed........they're too low and need to be grouped.

Instead of adding more holes in the wall cut out some paper (newspaper will do) the same size as the frames and tape those to the wall. Once you have a layout you like, then nail in the hangers. BTW, you won't need hubby to play with the templates.........just take everything down, play with the layout, and then when you've made your decision let him know! :)

I would try to use the 3 pitchers together or even work them into your holiday display.

Hi again. Back with picks of new finds...

My 7 yr old dd picked out a beautiful blue pumpkin. I love ithe color which connects not only to the foyer ceiling but also the accent color in the office directly across from dresser.

I realized that I am even worse at florals than accessorizing so I hope you like what I came up with. I chose some fall color berries and feathers to go in the pitchers. I also found a small wicker basket which I could use for catching keys and cell phones or place something else in it.

I also found a weird shaped black bowl in my house that I filled with stones and a candle. I also found little seed covered balls that I could either place in basket or the bowl around candle. Not sure which works.

After renofan and annz comments about regrouping pics, I decided to give it a go. I moved the large painting over thanks to a push pin. LOL. My paper wasn't large enough. I did use paper for the other two paintings though. What do you think, better? The blue willow/transferware plate and bowl would be placed above the large painting. Annie held one up so you could see. The other is on the table. What do you think? Does the accessories work?

Always nice to have a helper...and a cute one at that! Renofan beat me to it, but I also think the pics should ne grouped as she suggested. I would try the two plates next to each other in the space your DD is holding it up to. I also think a taller buffet style lamp might look better. The lamp you have seems a little too short. Do you have a taller lamp you can swap with? I also like the contrast of the white pitcher.

I'm posting while watching my GD so I can't concentrate too well! Another way to get a feel of what things will look like is to lay out the design on the floor......it may make it a little easier for you and Annie! ;)

I'd try the arrangement you have but I'd be tempted to raise the two pics on the left a little. Another arrangement I'd try is to have the colored painting on the bottom left, a B&W on top and the other B&W to the right of the color. In the upper right hand corner try one or both dishes.
Third try would be to place the two B&W's on the bottom and the color on top........with or without the transferware.

I tried the pics as you all suggested and just wasn't loving the plates. Plus the focus shifted to the overall look rather than the artwork, which is what I was going for. I hope that doesn't offend you all that suggested it. I can see how it would work that way if I wasn't so attached to the paintings being the focal point.

So...I decided to give it another go. I moved the larger painting up some, and moved the two smaller paintings in closer to dresser. I removed the lamp since nobody thought it worked. LOL. I found an old lantern that I had stuck in the back of a shelf for yrs now to put in the lamps spot. I would prefer for it to be electric but can't have it all especially when it is free. I used the two pitchers that belonged to my family for yrs. Added new floral berry/ball thingys to the bird pitcher, blue pumpkin, and basket with seed balls inside. (all new) Lastly I added the little cream crock that I love to light with fragrance oils. I am not 100% sure that the small crock works so let me know. If not, I can move it back to the kitchen.

Lastly, please vote....Cream/White OR Blue candle for the lantern?

Without small tealight crock...before moving the paintings to permanent spaces....

Like the lamp -- but try a simpler shade -- maybe just a plain white one that would echo the strong colors in the artworks. Switch the photo to a black-and-white one to echo that look too.

THEN sit the lamp back on the left side -- and add the white jugs on the right (love the seasonal branches -- but stuff a wad of paper towel in there first and then put in the branches so they are a little higher -- perhaps add a branch or two of reddish/burgandy silk leaves)

Add a round white pumpkin in the middle by the two white jugs. For Halloween -- switch the black-and-white photo for a seasonal one of children in costumes.

Try adding a round woven tray in the middle of the table to hold a wood bowl full of seasonal pinecones.

I really like the paintings as you have them now. Maybe even move the sides ones in a little be closer, just a tad. I like that arrangement better than any of the others. I vote cream for the candle so it will brighten it up some. I don't care for the small tea light there but I do like the white pitchers, they show up great. The basket is looking a little lost/small in the picture at least. It looks like it needs something in it that shows up over the top or I also liked someones idea of a larger tray there instead that could catch keys, etc., or at least appear that it does :-)
Isn't it crazy how hard it is to accessorize? I know how you feel and I'm certainly learning too, but it's fun and you're getting there!

Oh, I really like your last placement of the pictures and without the tealight. You are right to leave off the transferware. They have their own charm and will look lovely grouped together someplace else. The churches have a lovely serene quality which is more apparant now.
