Can I run 2000W of metal halide from one typical house outlet?
Comments (5)I wouldn't try. Household sockets are either rated for 15A or 20A (the latter mostly in kitchens and garages; the former, most everywhere else). 120V (which you're lucky if you actually get that much out of the socket) * 15A is 1.8kW. 120V * 20A is 2.4kW, but you'd be lucky if you could actually draw that much; fuses and breakers in the US are designed to throw early, not late. It's not recommended that you draw more than 13A for extended periods. Plus, we're not accounting for ballast losses here -- only bulb draw. I assume that bulb draw is separate from ballast draw in that 1000W rating. You could use a Kill-A-Watt meter to find out for sure just how much they're using; they're cheap and very handy to have around. If you're good at wiring, *and* your sockets are on the same phase, *and* your timer is rated for that much current (notice all of the conditionals here), you *could* wire two plugs together onto the same cord. If your sockets are opposite phase, though, that won't work. In short, I wouldn't put more than 1.5kW on a socket if I were in your shoes. Just get another timer. Besides, that gives you redundancy: one timer goes, you don't lose both lights....See MoreAlready installed Hansgrohe 3/4-Inch iBox..can i run 2
Comments (3)Do you also have the Quattro or the Trio diverter? I think you need a diverter. Have you looked at the Hansgrohe brochure that is on their website? It has a LOT of shower configurations. Here is a quote for the Quattro: "Quattro 3-Way Diverter Selects between three functions or a combination of any two". I think the Trio selects from any 2 functions or combo. But I am not sure about the combo part of this equation. I will post a link to the webpage with the downloadable brochure. The link will be at the bottom. In my pending setup I have the following: 1) ibox x2 2) quattro diverter (can select any 2 functions to run at the same time out of 3 options) 3) hand shower on bar 4) Raindance E 420 AIR 2-Jet Showerhead (this is where the second ibox goes) Hope this helps somewhat. Maybe someone else will have more experience than I. Here is another GW thread that has a lot of info but not sure if it has the info you've asked for. http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/bath/msg0611065411093.html Here is a link that might be useful: Ibox Universal Plus Hansgrohe...See Morewanted: i have two boxes!
Comments (28)I broke in my new casserole dish this morning with some plain Jane cookery. I made a rice casserole. Pretty tasty for winging it with what I have on hand. The fresh rosemary made it sing. (Smaller pic. That's better!) Eileen This post was edited by barnmom on Mon, Feb 11, 13 at 11:53...See Moretwo swiches, one box, many hours
Comments (4)The no-power-in-the-box thing is pretty much what I thought too. Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be another wire coming to or from the old ext. fixture location. There must be power to the functioning interior light, right? So, if I can get it from there to the ext. light, I could then just loop down to the unused switch and...problem solved, I hope....See Morearbpdl
