One of things that drives me nuts is how my S/D changes her disposition and behavior when Mommy is around. When her Mom can see her, she is usually nicer and friendlier. When her Mom is not around, she is usually very cold and distant. When I try to tell Mom that the person I deal with is not the person she deals with, Mom can't accept it. She doesn't believe her daughter can be manipulative.

I guess I should be happy that the S/D is pleasant at least a little part of the time...but I can't stand phony people. Especially phony people who get away with it.

Hi Thurman, I can relate to the two faced behavior. My now adult SS & SD have done it for years, especially the SS. When DH around they act so overly nice to me, but when DH not there they barely will talk to me. It is really sad.

I do want you to know that in the last year it has gotten better. But I do not see them as much. I have tried to forget all the hurtful, phony, disrespectful, manipulative, rude, spoiled, self centered, etc. things they have done, however it is difficult at times.

And yes, my DH does not see it or understand what I am talking about. He is blind to anything negative his kids do. DH is an enabler and wants to be their friend. He has all the normal guilt divorced dads have. His kids can do no wrong, but that is why they are so spoiled self centered. It is also why so many can hardly stand his kids. Even the kids own aunts, uncles, and grandparents find them rude, self centered, hard to get along with.

How old is SD?? If she is a teenager sometime cold and distant is better than rude and disrespectful. If she is getting out of line and not behaving properly (smart mouthing when ask to do chores or something of that nature)
Its best to let mom know what went on and have her handle it so as not to cause conflict in your marriage. Maybe your SD is just testing the boundries as kids do with new parents. Also its a possibility that SD dosent feel quite comfortable enough with you alone as she does when her mother is present. I wish you the best of luck and im sure in time SD will come around!

Throw it in here or start a vry funny post..lol Moc...I actually am seeing a satiny sheen on your June...it's beautiful. Prairie moon...you have a gorgeous specimen of June...the leaf you pointed out actually has some variegation on top left of leaf...see what Spring will bring...I had June for at least four years before it sported the blue. I culled it because I wanted to grow it..I used to have Halcyon, which is a parent of June. As I've learned from Idiothe's wonderful 'tutorial' which I will find for you, some solid sports are very vigorous growers and if left to grow alongside the parent, can take over. Some of our forum gardeners pinch it out, or pull it off, or cut it...I let it grow for a full year and I'm so happy with its size and vigour. It will grow as H. 'Halcyon' in my garden (potted up for now).

Yes, that is the exact set up we have--- and that part of our basement has a width of about 14 or 15 feet I think so it is very similar to yours. In fact, our ID brought one of the walls in closer to create a more intimate "inglenook" type area. We don't have a problem with stiff necks while watching anything if we're sitting upright. And we have two swivel chairs at the ends of the sofas where one can view easily, but the prime real estate is still the sofas. I have to ask, though, for people whose sofas face the tv: does it hurt your neck to watch while you are lying on the sofa? It's the same situation....I never hear of anyone complaining about that,

@live_wire_oak Even if I had to replace the shelves once every year, it is still 10% the price of building an enclosure with doors. Those shelves cost $40, and a similar-sized enclosure that could enclose those shelves costs $400 and higher. If you had four of these racks tied together in a 2x2 configuration, it would be virtually impossible for a complete structural failure in one of those racks to bring down the entire assembly or to have the rack fall inwards to the walking path.
