Christmas Tree #2 and #3 Completed

Ooh, I am tired of making trees. Here are #2 and #3 done. The last one I ran out of regular green glass and had to resort to glass that had more olive and some pink in it. Used the millifiore for ornaments in the last one. I've had a hard time completing these because life has had a way of interfering with mosaic time.

Well, they came out great. Very pretty,but I can see where it would get tedious!

I have found that doing multiples of anything bores me. I'd not be good at production work.

Nice trees, though!

We ordered a 9' tree, it's beautiful. It looked great the first year. However the next year we had a burnt(these are the LED lights and aren't supposed to burn out as fast) out section(1of5). I called and talked to customer service, they were very helpful and sent us a replacement. The replacement didn't arrive until just before Christmas, so we just put the new section in storage with the tree after Christmas. This year we take the tree out of storage and connect the brand new section has the WRONG lights. I continue to check the rest of the sections and I find another section burnt out as well. I called Customer Service and was asked to take pictures and send them via email. I did, the pictures were very clear and concise as to what the problem was. I called customer service and confirmed the next day that they did in fact have the pictures and that they were working on it. The response was wait 72 hours(3 work days). A week later I hadn't heard from anyone from Balsam Hill. I called and was told that they were going to elevate it and they would get back to me. I called the next day and talked to another agent(after explaining everything again) and he said he would look into it and get back to me later. Much to my surprise he called back and said that they don't have either of the parts in stock and that they would have to make the sections, but that wouldn't happen until this summer some time. I asked for a replacement tree as this was our second year with a faulty tree, Paying for this much for a tree I expect it to work, especially at Christmas. I was told no. I called the next day and asked to talk to the supervisor, I got the same response, no parts until the summer. I asked again for a new tree, even offered to send the faulty one back, but no. This is the second year I have had to but lights to decorate my pre-lit tree, never mind that it has one section of lights that don't match the rest of the tree. For the price of the tree I would expect a little better customer service, especially during the holiday season, that is what these trees are used for. To not have the parts during your peak season is inexcusable. They surely have the trees for new customers, why not take the two sections out of ones that work and let my family have a complete tree for Christmas.

well, by removing some lights, you could actually be making the others brighter. i have a few strands that if you remove more than 1-2 lights, the strand gets real bright! light strands are series-parallel circuits that are setup so that each bulb basically gets 1.5 to2.5 volts across it, depending on the exact setup of the strand. by removing bulbs, you change the ciruit resistance, and up the voltage to each bulb. as this happens, the bulb gets brighter and gives off more heat. remove enough and the circuit is broken completely on most stradns and you get no light. also, you say unscrewing the bulbs, so i take it this is not the mini lights but the older 4 or 9 watt screw in bulbs. they will produce much more heat than the smaller bulbs. as configured from the manufacturer, the bulbs should be safe. of course we all know that chinese crap may not be, but if the bulbs run cooler with all bulbs in, then i would leave it alone.

After going through some artificial types, I finally broke down and bought real ornamental trees from my local nursery. They were spiral cut and lasted through wind, snow, rain, ice and extreme heat for 4 long years. We just took them out of their root-bound pots and planted them in the yard.

i hate wrestling with lights with a passion!!! i have had many years when 1/2 way thru the season(or sooner!), 1/2 a strand would go out... the mini lights are so cheap now that i tend to use 'fresh'(1-3 years old, max) strands for the tree and other difficult or highly visible areas. i just can't be bothered with messing with inexpensive lights anymore!!!! it's wasteful, but helps keep me sane during the holidays! i have also swapped out alot of outdoor sets with LED sets too...have 'recycled' old or 1/2 working sets at HD. i bought one of those light fixing guns one year and had terrible success with it---i tried to use it on our icicles and ended up returning it-don't know if the gun was faulty or if our lights were beyond repair...

They are very pretty. It gets tedious after awhile to do multiples, doesn't it? I know what you mean about life interfering with mosaicing sometimes . . .

Sirius, they are both beautiful and like everyone else I too hate the idea of duplicating. I would have a tendency to make improvements in each item until they outshine the first and it embarrasses me. LOL

nothing to be embarrassed about here though, they all look terrific. Were you giving these as gifts?

Those are so pretty! I love the shape of your ornaments and you can't tell the glass choice wasn't deliberate. I also don't like to do anything in multiples. In fact, I do one thing in china, then stained glass, then china..

They're all really pretty................I love the bases! I have a hard time doing two of the same thing.....I have a hard time getting one thing done also though.....as you said, life...day-to-day living gets in the way!!!

I like the variations in glass. Nothing in nature is ever the same. So to me it looks totally natural. They are beautiful trees and will look so pretty as table decorations. Are they for you or gifts?
I would hate to give them away.

Beautifullllllllllllllllllllllllllll, i just bought a wood tree to do. Haven't had the time to do it. You were my inspiration to do something out of the box for me. Also bought a sled to do.

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't like to do multiples. I actually like the first one with the dangly bulbs best. I mailed the first one and the second one made out yesterday to my parents and my inlaws. The third one is for whoever. My father just sent me 12 more to do...

again. I can't believe he sent you 12 more!! OMG! I give you props on doing the 3. I just can't make myself do that.
Maybe you'll be up for it again next year..with a whole new idea!

gulp - 12 more just like those? As a stepping stone slave, may I offer a suggestion? INDIRECT METHOD ~ lol. I would have gone insane if I'd had to sit in the same spot working on all those stepping stones. Using the indirect method, I could work in front of the tv, in the backyard, propped up in bed, at the kitchen table, etc. I just put my glass in little cups, grabbed my pattern, nippers, contact paper, and a large cookie sheet and worked wherever my butt landed - including my desk at my place of employment :-)

You did such a great job on them that I can understand why he wants you to do more for him :-)

Never thought of the indirect method - yeah I can see me doing that in bed - my DH already complains about the glass chips in the carpet, couch, all over the patio... Really, I am going to try a different method for the next. My father is a retired master wood craftsman and it gave him a nice project to do, so how could I turn down 12 more?

The trees turned out wonderful. I really like the shape and the milifore works well too.

I did several styrofoam trees, thinking if they came out good then I would do more. Couldn't do it. I made five all total and that was it. I have one more sitting on my table asking to be finished, but I am thinking I'm really over it! Yours look much better than mine though, and you have someone highly interested in seeing them completed. So you are really ahead of the game there.

Keep up the good work. Can't wait to see what else you do with them!

Sirius, your trees are very pretty! You have done such a nice job on them. I'm sure your relatives will love them. I'd have to get real creative with 12 more. Good luck!

They are wonderful!! I, too would HAVE to do something different on the "final" 12! You could take a cue from Garden Ridge - saw a fucia tree there with red lights (JUST KIDDING! - it was horrible looking to my eye!).

You are so talented and patient, and the results are definitely worth waiting for!

Heck we should have had your Dad make about 30 of them and we could have done those for an exchange gift!!!! That would have kept him busy!!!!!!! I think they look really great. I love them all.

Like everyone else said. I dont do well doing duplicates either. My exchange gift has been replicated now because I took it to work and it was liked so well I was commissioned to make another one for her. Also like Nice I tend to try to make the next one even better and drive myself crazy!!!

My dad would probably love to make 30 more for an exchange. My last tree is going to be done with tiny led lights. My DH drilled out 40 holes in the tree to place the lights. That one will not be fun to do because I'll have to watch the grout around the lights.
