'Wireless' cable TV?

Is anyone aware of a way to distribute cable TV in a house wirelessly? Not the X10 approach that requires the second TV to be tuned to the same channel as the first, but actually allowing the second TV to be tuned independently. A critical piece of my cable TV wiring has stopped working, and it would be really nice not to have to fix it (it runs through the floor, for heaven's sake *smile*).

You and thousands of CATV techs around the world are looking for the same thing. There is nothing like that available that I know of (yet).

you might take a look at Intellon INT6000 . At first review, it seems to be what you are looking for but I did not do much in depth reading or study.

I have enjoyed the disucssions here. I am on the quest to find what I will be able to do in my new RV. The main issue will of course be first getting a wifi signal from something. I do have an ATT air card which has a 5GB cap, I have my cell phone but have the minimum data plan on it currently and they do not offer an unlimited. I have a zyxel portable router that can make a hotspot from a wifi signal. 11n-compatible Wi-Fi router supports DSL/Cable and 3G connectivity, and a unique failover capability; should your wired connection be interrupted for any reason, the MWR222 will automatically switch to a 3G/4G wireless signal via the users Mobile Broadband Adapter modem. So now I have the ability to have enough wifi in the RV to use any of the devices I want to use. but I need to search out other cheap(ha!) sources to obtain an internet signal on the road. I know some places we will stay do provide free wifi and using my own portable router will make that wifi secure, but for those places out in the boondocks that don't provide wifi, I will need some kind of access. My ATT air card at 5GB cap sure won't allow much streaming of anything. Any thoughts? I have been looking at Roku and other boxes and with the usb port I definitely could download plenty of my own content to have available to view for the times I am not able to gain decent access to anything. The RV does have a roof top antenna and it is wired for cable for when we are at a site with cable. I do have direct tv at home and I know they do offer an on the road version to be able to use you current direct tv account with RV direct tv equipment, no idea of additional costs. the zyxel I have MWR222

You have a coupe options: The max allowable distance for Ethernet (over Cat5/6 copper is 100m (about 330') Fiber can run MUCH longer distances, depending on the specific type and speed. You could run coax that far, on your own, but you would have to worry about signal loss and noise. They can be run arielly or burried. If it was me, I would build a powered hut just off the road and run fiber. (If I could not mains power it, I would look in to solar cells and batteres with the appropriate voltages. (All cable modems and media converts that I have seen are DC devices. No need to run DC->AC->DC, it is just a waste of enegy.) If you want to know more and/or have specific questions, let me know.

If you were putting together some sort of very high speed local network for high end computers to communicate with each other over, the answer is generally "no". For general home and business use the answer is yes, though you really don't splice the cables. Instead you terminate both cable ends with male RJ45 connectors and purchase an "RJ45 cable coupler". It's just a small inline connector with an RJ45 female connector on each end. In the case of these couplers stick with Cat5e rated as opposed to Cat5. You can google "Cat5e coupler" to see exactly what I mean - though sometimes they are hard to find at local stores - and don't confuse them with RJ11 couplers for telephone line, which are fairly easy to find.

I always think it is funny when people want to upgrade phone lines? Most of the people I know do not have home phones. The ones that do generally have 1 phone physically connected to the house and then everything else is wireless. The land line is a rapidly vanishing technology. It is definitely not a selling point for homes. Basically, the same goes for computer lines. 1 good connection and everything else wireless. Cable/Satellite tv seems to be the exception. They haven't really gotten on board with short range wireless transmissions yet. It's coming, but generally people still need a physical cable to each tv. For power, there are national standards. There haven't been that many "big picture" changes recently, but if your house is 50+ years old, it probably wasn't designed with modern appliances in mind. Kitchens and bathrooms are the big movers there. People expect to be able to run their dishwasher, fridge, toaster over, garbage disposal, blender, microwave etc without tripping a breaker. Just a not though, if you start making alterations to the electrical, you generally will have to bring everything you touch up to modern code.

There's the sling box and the sony wireless TV. Both will remote a tv cable box (they repeat the infrared remote or you can use their virtual remote).

I looked at the slingbox, and it seems that it transforms a TV's video output (not the cable TV signal directly, that contains all the channels) to "networked TV" that can go through network appliances like routers, etc., and be decoded at the other end of the network.

Two problems with this for my proposed use. First, I want all TV's to be independent of each other. Second, I don't have any "networked TV"'s, just regular ones (*smile*). I would have to have a somewhat dedicated computer where I wanted to have the remote TV, and the remote TV would plug into the computer like a monitor to make this work for me. Same with the Sony. Although with the Sony, you can buy a TV that apparently can use the network TV directly (which most likely essentially contains a dedicated computer).

For regular Analog Cable select the CATV2400V.II

If you have Digital Cable you can select the CATV2400PLUS.

I just came across the folloiwng in the manual which appears to be the same for both models (see link).

"Advanced set-up is for those customers that want the added value of being able to watch their digital channels and controlling the digital box from the remote location. Note: When watching the digital channels, they will not be independent."

This is a really useful reference, and is appreciated...the TV upstairs is just a regular TV, so sharing just the basic cable with it is fine. I also noticed reading the associated literature that if you are sharing digital TV stations, then the TV's are not independent, which is not an issue for the moment.

My guess from buying cordless phones is that you buy it, try it in your house, and if it works fine. If not, return it.

Not sure if this is what your looking for. I bought the 5.8 GHz version, but haven't hooked it up yet. I bought it so I can watch tv out by the pool without running cable out there. Link is below. Unless there is a version I'm not aware of I believe the sling box just transfers to a computer.

I saw this, but it looked like one of those that connects to and re-transmits the base TV's video and audio outputs rather than the cable itself. The remote TV will not be independent of the TV that has the cable connected to it. There are several of those out there, including the highly advertised X10 "sender/receiver" stuff.

Guess I didn't read your post carefully enough. So you want to be your own little cable tv sub station and transmit through out the house.. Not sure if that is possible. Are you on cable or satellite? If your on cable call the cable company and let them come fix it. If they can't go thru the floor I'm sure they could come up with an alternative route. Do you have an attic space?? Very easy to go thru the attic and drop wires down interior walls.

Yes, I have an attic space, and in fact the cable there works, but it is not connected with or over my bedroom. There are at least two devices that I've found that you can plug the cable into and it is retransmitted to a receiver at the remote TV. Don't know what I'm going to do yet, we'll see.

Try CATV2400PLUS. It's better than Terk Leapfrog, RF-Link5811, and tried that X10 Pyramid, Radio Shack...

I found that AITech has an one-for-one replacement for the Angeltrax CATV2400PLUS.
