A print of an old map?

Perhaps just a set of "old" distressed wood shutters -- as though the viewer was looking at a closed window?

A "flat" vase -- filled with simple tall grasses?

OR have custom "aged" mirror tiles installed there -- and switch out your other mirror to a large colorful artwork?

With all the stone and iron work, you have to keep the niche decor simple, imo, or it will just look jumbled.

I think a simple fountain like this might be nice:

Thank you Joanne! I loved your pictures of France in the other thread. Honfleur was one of our ports on a European cruise we did last year. It is a lovely area.

Wow Teacats those are some terrific ideas! I knew I came to the right place. I haven't been able to come up with anything besides one of those big charger plates on a stand and none of them fit the space properly. All of your suggestions are very interesting and I especially like the wood shutters and the old map. I will have to see if I can work something out along those lines.

Les we must have been posting at the same time. Another great idea! I never considered that a water feature might fit the space.

We had a painting done on canvas to fit in our niche. We had hoped to take it with us when we moved but couldn't get it off the wall. Maybe there's a print that would fit your space...? I also like the wall fountain idea and the shutters. That sounds cool!!

My first thought was a fountain also.

I vote for a vase or urn to match thingy above, to hold flowers or arrangment of the season...

Lindy your painting is just beautiful and that is a really clever solution for a niche.

Marcia and Susie thank you for your comments. I am going to take a look at some fountains online to see what I can find that would work. I think the vase idea is a good one too and would probably be the easiest solution. An Italian looking urn would suit the decor, but it needs to have some substance to fill the space.

Yes Honfleur is a beautiful little village. I love the water fountain idea. That would be beautiful. I hear y'a when you say the vase idea would be the easiest solution. Rome wasn't built overnight. Enjoy!!

The fountain would have to be hooked up to electricity, but that should be doable since the niche is lighted.

Teacats I'm glad you like my kitchen. I've added a wall clock over the refrigerator since that picture was taken.

Lyban my daughter refers to the office (which is also an extra bedroom) as the prison!!!

Auntjen the office doors (the room actually has double doors although you only see one side in the photo) are antiques from a Mexican jail.

I really appreciate all of the terrific suggestions for my niche and the compliments on my home.

The hood fan in the kitchen is sooo beautiful. My you have a gorgeous home. So you had the brick detail put in? How old is the house? Just beautiful, Congrats and enjoy!!

Wow.. your home is lovely and unique. I'd love to see a mexican sculpture in there-- my first thought was a Santos figure but you'd need more than one and they'd have to be big to fill the space well.

If the niche isn't deep enough, I'd probably go with artwork.

Thanks Joanne, the contractor actually put in all the stone and custom details when he built the house in late 2006. It was used as a model home and sales office until we purchased it earlier this year.

Thank you Funkyart! The Santos figure would look perfect but as you say I would need to have more than one or put something else with it. It would also have to be pretty tall. I'll have to look into that though.
