After showing some pictures of my window treatments, some of you had asked to see some whole room pictures. So here's

a 'House Tour'...I hope you don't mind what I've posted, or, get bored...

We designed and built this house, in CT, 2 yrs ago. Before that, we lived in a 75yr old home for 28 yrs, that we totally renovated.(90% we did ourselves) It was in lower Westchester County, NY. (A Stone's Throw Into NYC) So, living here, 'In The Country', has been an adjustment..

We hang out here the whole season..

We bought this Buffet/Hall Table at an estate sale for $20.

and refinished it

Entry Stairway (church pew I purchased at House Wreckers) years ago.

Dining Rm (I'm looking to sell the Table & Chairs)

Blue & White ... One of my collecting passions!

Kitchen (we still have to do a tile backsplash) This Fall Hopefully. (The White Hutch DH Built For Me for My Ironstone Collection)

Family Rm....One of DH's hobbies is Boat Building.. (Over the Years, the Boats have been getting Bigger & Bigger...I've been joking with him that I think he's getting ready to build one to Sail Away On !!

Hi all,Good Morning! I see that a lot of you haven't received your books yet, is no problem to wait, lets give it the rest of the week for everyones books to arrive. After all the first lesson involves the book LOL. Jane, #1 is as lovely as #2. You have so many neat turkeys! I really like your white hutch with all the colors you used. So many lovely things. The Pilgrim couple was a great find. I'm ROTFLMBO that the other lady had a broken foot so DH gave her a new one! If I didn't know that your DH's great at woodworking I might wonder if someone else only has one foot now!teehee Love Mr Brown and he does look Grand! You will crack up when you see my Mr Brown when I post my ts. I will keep hunting and try to console myself by believing 'Good Things Come To Those Who Wait'.haha It must be almost overwhelming knowing you are decorating for fall and have so much company coming for a Christmas get together soon after TG. Hope you know we love seeing all of this so it's time well spent! Besides you have to much beautiful fall decor to not share. Do take care of yourself tho. Punk

I guess I'm lucky that I've always had an eye for design and detail and find it easy to visualize what I want. I found looking over home magazines, helped me develop a sense of style . Going to estate sales and auctions, has given me an opportunity to see many beautiful homes and furnishings. Slinkey: You're the one I saw recently with the wood table and Parson's chairs! I love your set. But I think you're pretty far from TX, aren't you?? ^_^ Susan209: I got on Craigslist all the time! And I would totally consider getting a second-hand one. Biggest issue is having the cash for one (where at a store I could pay for it in installments). But, I keep my eyes peeled. Although, just yesterday I found someone selling 6 Parson's chairs (with decent slipcovers) for $50 each. So, things are out there. Joann and Linda: Thank you for the wise advice. You're right about taking my time. My husband has already suggested getting one of those folding tables anyway, and with 9-10 adults and 7 kids (ranging from 1 yr to 18) slated for Thanksgiving, they wouldn't all fit at a formal table that would fit in that space anyway. And, of course, another issue is money. I'd rather save for something nice than put something on credit (and then have something happen where we couldn't pay off, ya know?). That's why I love coming here and reading everyone's points of view -- many, many years of experience. Thanks again! You've given me much to think about (and I really do think that maybe the rented/folding table and chairs may be a better solution for Thanksgiving, and I won't feel so frazzled to get a house in order and new furniture in and can focus on what matters most -- family!). *hugs to all* ^_^

Sometimes you can just look at a house and it tells a lot about the people that live in it.

This house reeks of sweetness and happiness.

Oh Slinkey, I'm in love with your house! Thank you so much for posting the pictures--and especially for pointing out all your "rescued" finds. Some of my own favorite pieces have similar stories, and I just love looking at what others find and use.

Please post more! I'd love to see the bedrooms. BTW, your DR table and chairs are gorgeous! I live on the CT border, so if you decide to put them on CL could you let me know?

I love your home too. Can I ask about your dining room chairs? Did you order them that way or have them recovered? I've got the same chairs I think (the side ones with the rolled back) that I want to have redone but I'm not sure where to start.

teeda, As far as me selling my Dining Rm Table & Chairs, I was just given my mother's (which I just put in storage) and for sentimental value, I won't give it up. My table & chairs will be selling for Less than what I paid for JUST the table.
I've discussed this with DH, and he has agreed. (he lives w/me)

marti8a... I had the chairs custom made from Carrington Court Chair Co. The quality of the chairs are awesome as well as dealing with this company. I had several swatches sent to me at first, then I decided. They were packed and shipped Amazingly. I did research online and found them.

Jane, I am so glad you posted the photos of your gorgeous rooms! They are as lovely as I thought, seeing just a bit of a room in the window treatment photos. What a great view you have from your windows too. I will join New Dawn for breakfast on a Sunday. tomorrow works just fine for me! Just coffee will be good- on your porch! more pics please! I love your diningroom table and chairs but there is nothing better than owning family pieces.

Slinkey, what a beautiful home. Inside and out! I would love to see the bedrooms too, if you don't mind sharing. I've rarely seen a home so welcoming and uncontrived. It's absolutely beautiful.

What a lovely, warm and welcoming home you have! I should have KNOWN it was New England, as a native New Yorker, (Lake Placid, though, a "bit" further north...LOL), I thought I recognized that Yankee greenery out the windows!! I live down south now, due to transplantation by marriage, but still visit my home up there often. Your place is so inviting, and it's delightful that you shared it with us. I'd love to see more, too!

Thanks for sharing, truly beautiful. I, too, love that it doesn't look contrived, it looks like HOME! It's refreshing to view a home that reflects the home owner and not a commercial decorating trend.

I just had to come back to see if you had shared more pictures. Your home is amazing because it is so charming and beautiful from a collection of furniture that you have put together in a classic and unstated way to achieve such elegance and you have included your family in your home, which for me, is a big thumbs-up. Hiding our family pictures is saying that we are ashamed somehow of those we love and that's just not right and you are certainly an example of someone who loves home and family as a part of that home, the memories and the future.

Thanks so much for posting photo's of your home. It is absolutely lovely. I love it all, but my favorites are the little sofa seating area in the library and the bay windows in the eating area. Oh, and the church pew, looks like it was made for that space. Great find. I see those advertised all the time on my Craig's list. I'm thinking one may end up in my house at some point. LOL

I hope I'm able to one day have my house as warm and pretty as yours is. That is what I'm striving for anyway.

Seems you have a very talented DH. He does beautiful work.

My Oh My... I NEVER expected to see SO MANY wonderful, warm, and Very Touching comments. I thank ALL of you so much. I must say, that what you see in our home, does reflect us, as some of you stated. We've always made family & friends, an important part of our home. And as they become more scarce, as time goes by, they become more important to us. We've always had fun filling our home with things that not only look nice, but that we really enjoy. My SIL would tease me and say... 'all you need is a 'chair , a table and a picture, and you make it happen'.. I've always felt, when decorating a home...rather than looking for 'matching' items...(the fad of the day)...I look for something that I REALLY Like, and I build from that. If I really like it, I find I will ALWAYS like it. Most of what I have, I would have a hard time parting with. I've seen people constantly changing their 'look'...and I believe it wasn't their 'look' to begin with. Trust me, I love to rearrange, to collect and add to what I already have. I love ALSO doing it with new Fabrics and paint, which Always give a new look to a room, w/o even rearranging your furniture. Also, I'm fortunate that dh is very creative. (as was his field) and His hobby
is woodworking. I design it...and.... LOL >> he makes it!!

babs711...I have to search my files for the color that we used in the Family Room. It was BM...I will post it as soon as I find it. :)

Slinkey, I am so envious of your talent! Your home is lovely and you have even made a microwave over the range VERY acceptable. This gives me hope! Also, I noticed your baseboards don't have the little shoe molding along the bottom and I think that this is such a nice look.

Your foyer, dining room, kitchen and stairway looks to be all the same off white. My kinda of girl! Would you share the color?

Everything is lovely...you must be very proud!

dd50 > DH is in the Design Field (Art Director)..I am fortunate that he loves to build things.. he calls it 'Happy Therapy' !!

zoey...I chose not to have the little 'shoe' moulding. DH was not happy with that decision, because he says it shows 'gaps' between the floor and the moulding. (only slightly)...I just didn't want them..from past experience. The floors are easier to clean, and the little moulding would always get beat up when using the vacuum..Just my thing! As far as the color..yes it's all the same.

You have created not just a house, but a home. It is lovely. Looks like something out of 'Country Home' magazine!

What style is your mom's dining set? Are you sure that in the end you will be happy with it? I understand the sentimental value, of course, but unless it was handcrafted by her, it is really just furniture she bought, no different than what you have done. Could you perhaps use some pieces from her set in other places in the house, maybe a chair by a desk in a couple of places, the buffet as a cabinet in another room? It seems a shame to give up the set you have that fits your style and your space so well.
