Comments (16)Times have changed with internet shopping...comparing prices, bulk orders, big savings but sketchy delivery practices. My parents lost every appliance except fridge during storm Sandy. Even their boiler and hot water heater. At 84 and 85 yrs old and having replaced only one at a time the last 50 yrs, this was a bit devastating for them. We spent a week helping with installation etc. They needed local human contact to guide them. Consistent delivery and a number to call. Sears delivered the wrong stove the day before x-mas and let them keep it for the holiday and was replaced the next week free of charge of course. He would never order internet or feel comfortable. My dishwasher was three weeks waiting with no return calls...dumped in the driveway and i was home at the time!...damaged and dented (tiny) but not on the visual face front. We installed to avoid the hassle of return and works fine but so frustrating. If ordering internet to save money, read all delivery print and ask questions repeatedly by phone. You will not get the service you have had in the past when you ordered locally. My fridge was delivered white glove by a very good local appliance store and old fridge removed. No stress and on time and on the day agreed. My washer/dryer was next day delivery from Lowes. Yes you can save a bundle but must be flexible. My neighbors did an e-bay nightmare and it was never delivered. It was protected but took a couple months to get money back...the seller did not have the item they were selling....listed and sold it over and over to take the cash hoping to stall the buyers for another stove in the future...even blamed the buyer for backing out of sale! My point is...do your homework and do not expect the white glove services of yesteryear...ask for it, demand it and you will be expected to pay for it. It is often included in your local suppliers delivery service. Ask lots of questions. Many stories here of appliances dumped on sidewalks....See Morea very bad furniture experience- BEWARE
Comments (8)I WILL NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM CALICO CORNERS. Two months ago, I walked into Calico Corners for the first time. I went to the store in Greenbrae, California. I was the only customer in the store at the time. By my count there were at least 4 employees in the store. One employee was actually training another employee, from what I could tell. The store was not very big, so it was no secret that a customer had walked into the store. I walked around the entire store several times. I stopped repeatedly to look at fabrics, trims, etc. I was there for over half an hour. I was never acknowledged by a single employee at that store. Nobody said "hello" let alone "may I help you" or "do you have any questions." Instead, I had the pleasure of listening to two employees standing in the cash register area arguing about whether or not to charge a customer about fabric. I do mean ARGUING. Not discussing. ARGUING. In the middle of the store. In plain sight of anyone in the store. When one of the employees had enough of the argument and huffed away, she walked right past me and didn't even look at me. The other employee then proceeded to recount the argument to a third employee and complain in length about the first employee. Now, I've worked in retail for much of my career, from working in stores during college to working in the corporate headquarters for a major retailer. The calibre of these employees was no better than what I have experienced from teenagers at discount retailers. I certainly expected more from MIDDLE AGED WOMEN in what is supposed to be a REPUTABLE source for interior decorating. Needless to say, I was completely disgusted. I stood by the front door, called my husband and said, in a voice loud enough to be heard to the back of the store, "We will not spend a penny at Calico Corners because they cannot be bothered to acknowledge a customer, as they are too busy arguing amongst themselves." I promptly walked out. I tried to submit this feedback via the Calico Corners website, but I kept getting an error message. Apparently they don't want the feedback. So, please share with their leadership that they missed out on a sale of several thousand dollars. I was planning on buying a sofa, chair and ottoman, as well as having curtains and a window seat made. I have also made it my mission to deter all my friends from shopping there. Thanks!...See MoreBad Job Interview Experience
Comments (39)Gardeningmusician, I just wanted to say that I think you are a great person for not responding to an email while angry. I can tell from your posts that this school missed out in a major way by not hiring your husband. I guess I am kind of confused by their policy, because I feel like they are saying that Christians only send their children to Christian schools. They aren't turning an applicant away based on religious beliefs, but based on where his kids attend school. That little bit of information doesn't even begin to tell them about the person he is or what his religious beliefs are, if that is truly what they wanted to know. I just don't get it. For example, I personally think children can learn best how to be a true Christian by being in a public school environment. It is a great place for them to learn how to be compassionate for others, play with all kinds of children from many different backgrounds and just quietly lead by example. Character is tested every day in a public school. There are plenty of Christian families that are not in a Christian school. Also, not all Christians can afford to send their kids to private schools, but that does not mean they are less of a Christian. That school's policy is plain crazy. No one should decide who to interview based on where their kids go to school, how does that bit of information define us as a person? You have handled this situation with total grace....See Moregood or bad experience with M. Teixeira?
Comments (28)1. Whenever any company sells a lot and has done so for many years, the following truths can be said to be guaranteed: - that most of the buyers have bought, paid and had their stuff delivered without significant complaint problem or hiccup - that they were satisfied - that some of the buyers (or prospective buyers) had problems I think it is fine for R Teixeira to be active in defending his point of view. 2. Whenever any individual approaches a kitchen renovation... and for the first time in one's life... the following truths can be said to be guaranteed: - that pain will be present as one goes through the learning process - that some vendor somewhere might force you to go away instead of educating you - that such an occurrence can be very painful Last week we read remarks in another thread about one GW participant who used metaphors to describe her complaints. Only a handful commented that the language was either too vague, too inflated, or too psychological to be useful to others. 3. Whenever any forum or group exists... and in stable form too... the following truths can be said to be guaranteed: - that an animal loyalty hierarchy will exist - that this then causes some loyal person to spring to action to protect some other ranked member at some point - that the discussion can then move Away from The Factual Point and revolve only around Loyalty and Conduct. Last week we read remarks in two threads about how much we all appreciate that 1 GW participant who used metaphors to describe her complaints... And we also saw a lot of indirect criticism of the people who spoke to address facts and contain or minimize metaphoric language or psychological conclusions. Be thee all aware. There's not much there, when all is said and done. It was pus busting pain. hth...See Morebeekeeperswife
