Looking for an unfinished wood medicine cabinet with no mirror
Comments (6)This is one below would match very well the style of the vanity, but U$ 380 is a lot: Medicine Cabinets:Cherry Medicine Cabinet - Handmade Woodworks Would it look weird if I just put a frameless recessed mirror cabinet there? I mean because the 2 main mirrors have a white shaker frame, the recessed cabinet would be frameless. If you think it's fine, I could get a Robern one, like this: Robern What size should it be considering the vanity mirrors are 24x36"including the frame? I could maybe go with a semi recessed shaker style with mirror like these: Shutter Medicine Cabinet : Medicine Cabinets : Restoration Hardware Cartwright Medicine Cabinet : Cartwright : Restoration Hardware But might need to refinish to match whites of cabinets. What do you guys think? Ideas? Thanks...See MoreDistressed kitchen cabinets - fad or not?
Comments (29)I saw this thread with just one response when it was originally posted, and read with interest all of the additional comments. I'm glad, Maxey, that you made your decision - some of these can be so agonising and feel like big mistakes if you get them wrong. You did it in the only way possible - by actually seeing and deciding what you like. I'm sure you'll be very happy with them! Just wanted to add my own experience to this thread for future reference. Like every design element, distressing is a matter of personal taste, and, as many have said, it all depends. On the materials, method used, style of house but most of all, what you like. I'm not a lover of white kitchens, but there are many (MANY) here that are simply beautiful, and that I admire. And I imagine that the hearts of the owners of those beautiful new kitchens just sing when they walk into their kitchens. When we saw the factory finish distressing that our excellent cabinet maker offered, we knew it wasn't for us, or for our 100 year old home. As many have said, it seemed too contrived, especially as we wanted to distress all of the cabinets and not just one piece. In the end, we hired a local shop to hand paint and hand distress the cabs and we absolutely love the result. It was a painstaking, many step process, and each piece is subtly different. So, it all depends. That's why I love coming here and seeing the finished kitchen long after ours has been done - the variety and personal touches are all wonderful. Good luck with your kitchen, Maxey! Eliz...See MoreHow to remove dried adhesive from unfinished wood floors?
Comments (11)I had a bathroom project a while ago, I took up the laminate and put down tile. After the laminate came up, the whole floor was covered with the glue they use when laying it, it was like hard plastic. I had at the time researched some ways/products to use and came up with KRUD KUTTER, I know you can get it at either Home D or Lowes and I think you can even now get it at Wally world. I used it full strength, poured it on, left it (dont remember how long) came back with a putty knife and it was all gooey and soft, came right up.. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes. another example of what I've used it for. I had a perpetual haze on my laminate wood floors (most likely from a build up of cleaning products etc. caught one cleaning lady using mop and glow on it, ugh) anyway, it would never stay shiny and clean looking. I had tried several things and finally tried the KK, again, full stength but I didn't leave it very long. came back with a plastic spatula/turner and literally scarped off a yellow film. It did not appear to hurt my floors, and the haze was forever gone, (now I only use vinegar and water). Might be worth a try? Well, I dont know if it can hurt to try it, Disclaimer: I have no affiliation with this product and have no information on how it might work or affect your floors :) I think it's a great product with many uses and just thought I'd mention it....See MoreAre rub-through distress marks on cabinets are overdone/passe'?
Comments (41)Bee, LOL using Marcolo's shoe-glancing/"anyway..." technique, I just read that thread, it was great. mtnrdredux, those are lovely == and that's my favorite knob shape. Coincidentally, after I told him I didn't want the distressing after all, my finisher came up with the idea of adding in some brush strokes. allison, thank you! for the David T. Smith link. Wish I had known about him previously, and am saving the link for my freestanding island (to be added.) My kitchen is already built, awaiting painting, and has some of those elements, though my doors are overlay. Thanks for all the photos, can't help but love most of those distressed pieces. I especially love your sofa table. jdesign, all these years I thought Downsview cabinets were from England! They sure are gorgeous. I've decided I'm not going with distressing at all, because the only kind I'd want would be the very subtle. My finisher is extremely talented, but I do not yet have within me the sense of exactly how that should be done, and I'm not sure he has that experience or sense within himself yet, and my experience has taught me that if someone doesn't have "the vision" within themselves on things like this, it's not going to come out in the product. So, I'm going to play it safe. I'm very grateful for all the ideas and instruction you all have given me, it's of immense help!...See Morebobismyuncle
