Layout Help - Any and all advice appreciated
Comments (4)Looks great, however how about moving the trash right next to the sink. Much easier to scrape - rinse - load dishwasher. Also, if you can switch to a few more drawer stacks you will probably like them much more. I like the idea of cherry and white. Try to put in lots of different zones of lighting all on dimmers. I too don't like dark but really wanted my dark cherry kitchen, we put in 8 cans, 3 pendants, one above sink, and undercabinet lighting (in hutch too) all of them are on dimmers and it really helps to set the mood we want throughout the day and seasonally....See MoreOak Cabinets? Paint white or stain black?
Comments (18)My house threw up orange oak and brass so I made the decision to paint mine. I didn't want super dark cabinets so that wasn't an option for me. I also didn't want white cabinets so I picked a soft gray (BM cumulus cloud) and then found a beautiful granite that had all the colors that matched in it. The process took me 4 months. I removed all the doors, wiped them clean, sanded them, wiped them again and again, two coats of primer and two coats of paint. I enjoyed the process though. I used Cabinet coat for primer and BM Advanced paint. Both are none oil based so easy clean up and no harsh smells. I wouldn't change a thing. They have held up fine. I'll post pics. Be sure to post pics too if you do anything :)...See MoreBlue Oak / Black Oak Hybrid?
Comments (5)Dan, the name of the blue and valley oak hybrid is Quercus × jolonensis Sarg. (Q. douglasii × Q. lobata Nee). It is listed in that link you posted. My source for the Q.kelloggi x Q.lobata hybrid is here: http://www.laspilitas.com/groups/oaks/california_oak2.html and http://www.laspilitas.com/groups/oaks/california_oak4.html They even have a picture in the second link. http://www.laspilitas.com/images/grid24_24/4645/groups/oaks/pictures/kellogii_lobata2.jpg...See MoreStaining red oak stairs to match white oak floor?
Comments (4)Does your floor manufacturer make a matching stair cladding? If you do that, you don’t need to have oak treads. Another option is to do a beautiful contrasting color of stain on the stairs. You could pull the colors together with handrail or baluster or post colors. Adding a runner on the stairs, or painting the risers would give you more options to tie in the floor colors. If you really want to match wood, dark stain is worth a try, but lighter colors are really tough. I matched a red oak transition strip to a dark chocolate brown stone tile once. I had to keep mixing and adding stain. It worked only because it was a dark brown color. It’s hard to neutralize red and yellow tones....See Morecelticmoon
