3-way dimmer wiring

I know there's about a million posts on this subject, but forgive me for being too lazy to go through all of them for my simple inquiry:

I wired up a dimmer yesterday to my dining room three-way light. Works just as I wanted, but I wired it just about the opposite of how the instructions on the box said. THEY said to connect the black to the load, and the two reds to the "travelers" to the other switch. The way I wanted it, I had to connect the black to the "hot" wire, with the two reds as travelers. The load comes off the other switch.

My question concerns the safety - does having the "dimmed" voltage going through the other three-way switch (before going to the load) create any overheating issues? I can't imagine that it does, but I've been wrong before, and fire safety is number one with me. Thanks.
