Shiloh cabinets-- Soft White or Polar White? Thoughts?
Comments (21)Thank you mdln for replying. I wish my link for store's sample kitchen above would work as it is gone. The kitchen designer had a brand new large sample door made for me and another client but would not leave it here for me to really analyze. The soft White was a little whiter than the Home Depot's Inner Most door sample (Divinity Classic) that I had here that I felt was too yellow in my lighting and with my tiles despite really liking it in a kitchen reveal on this forum. The Polar White (think the sample door was much older) with the 3,000K LED bulbs I was using did not look as nice with my tiles as the soft white in this lighting and actually had a gray look which surprised me. So maybe it is the lighting that I plan to use as I like white that is not so yellow. The Soft White was slightly darker and creamier than my bedroom set that I love so much that is Durham Maple with a rubbed out sand white finish. I had my heart set on the Polar but I think it does not go with my tiles and amazingly the soft white did in the light I plan to use as I only have one LED bulb in this light spectrum. I just do not envision my kitchen being too yellow but I don't want stark white either despite how wonderful it looks with the right counter and accessories in the kitchen of others as that did not look right with my tiles either. I already bought the kitchen floor tiles which I know I should have bought after the cabinets. Every kitchen that I see in Polar White or Soft White on this forum I have fallen in love with so maybe when all the doors are either white, it just looks white. The Eggshell is too warm for me....See MoreAm I looking for a soft buttery yellow or a soft buttery white?
Comments (46)For years now, Behr's THREADED GOLD has served me well. It is like having sunshine on the walls--it says welcome home! I've used it in various rooms in several houses, with the first use in a cave-like kitchen. It did not shine in that application (the room had no windows, just pass throughs to rooms which did have windows). In that same house, I rag rolled it on in a southwest facing study, room size 8 x 9, and it instantly made the walls disappear like I was walking through sunshine. It responds to the presence of sunlight. Since that time, THREADED GOLD is my go-to color for kitchen and dining. Now, I have it on kitchen, dining, and sitting room which are open to one another. I consider this color a soft yellow ochre, an earthy yellow. I avoid harsh chrome yellows, which probably serve well for lacquered surfaces. I wish my camera would take true color shots, but neither my smartphone camera nor the Kindle camera are accurate for color renditions. Perhaps the Nikon would be, if I could find it, but everything is packed away for our remodel still in progress. In fact, the painters left today after touching up their whole-house paint job, behind the trim installed by the finish carpenters. Right now, everything is in perfect shape but with no furniture to speak of, no kitchen installed, etc. Wall color shows better with other color around it, including wood trim and floors. I took pictures just now. Want to remind you of one thing though. When you have a light bulb around your yellow, be sure it is not a cool white, which has a blue tinge to it....your nice pure yellow walls will show a green tint. Comments (5)I prefer 3,000K warm light. I can even tolerate 3,500K. I bought a fixture that was supposed to be 3,000K but it is 4,000K and way too blue. I am stuck with it now. My recessed LED bulbs are all 3,000K and the room is so warm but not too yellow. It is similar to the color of a halogen bulb which I always love the light that type of bulb gives but not the heat....See MoreIs it a color crime to mix soft white cabinets with a light grey wall
Comments (2)Not a crime but will it look good to you? On my screen, the cabinets look fabulous near the floor tile. Quite a nice colour mix. In the room though, the floor is horizontal and the cabinets are vertical. You won't really see them side by side the way you will with cabinets and wall colour. I'd test both warm and cool whites on tester boards to see which I preferred....See MoreHomeSealed
