Celebrating Soft Colors
April is such a pretty month. My favorite time are the few days when the trees and flowers just start to bloom, especially if it rains (just a little) - all of the soft, new colors blend together like an Impressionist painting.
While those first few days of spring don't last forever, it's possible to capture the look indoors. Soft colors, indirect light, comfortable fabrics and fluid fabrics recreate an early spring rain shower - without all the wetness.
Here are some great examples of the way soft colors can work in beautiful rooms:

Pale mint green and natural wood make this outdoor space pretty and relaxing. The furniture's low profile adds to the understated, reserved feel of the space.
I love this really pale - nearly white - bluish, greenish, grayish tone. It's great with the natural wood and traditional lines. Plus, the metal sculpture adds just the right amount of edge, balancing the pastel.
A floral pattern feminizes this space, but simple furniture with clean, minimal lines balances the scales. Stocked bookshelves make the room feel even more useful and further temper the fussiness of the floral pattern.
This gray occupies an intriguing space right between cool and warm. It's an interesting color, but neutral enough to provide a perfect backdrop for a diverse collection like this one.
This room is a great example of balance between masculine and feminine elements. The masculine lines of the fireplace are tempered by white paint and the mirror over the mantle, and the gray of the walls strikes a perfect balance between soft and feminine and neutral masculine.
I love this for so many reasons. The ceiling is often forgotten, but here it gets the wallpaper treatment. It's not over the top, thanks to the muted colors, but the texture is subtly eye-catching. At eye-level, I love the mirrored table and feminine lines.
On top of the color, the combination of the grandiose architectural elements and the flowers make the room even more pretty, while emphasizing its stateliness.
