Help me stop collecting paint sample pots!

Honestly, I think Beekeeperswife and I could go into business, it sounds like we both have enough collected pints and quarts to rival the BM stores.

I didn't realize it could be so hard to find a paint color for a two story, east facing foyer. To add to the dilemma, I am someone who gravitates toward light and white colors, but was told I should go a bit deeper so the color doesn't get lost on the wall. Okay then, so I thought I would settle on F&B Matchstick, but I decided to use up the rest of my sample pot and paint a small wall under the chair rail. I knew when I stepped back that it was A) too gold and B) too dark. Have any of you experts out there ever found a soft white or any color for that matter that works well in an east facing room with tall walls? The particulars; trim is Simply White and stair handrail is being painted black, wool sisal going up the stairs.

Please help if you can before my painter (and husband) disown me ;)

Lesson learned for next house...Buy house facing North/ South and with LOTS of windows!!!

I will be thankful for any help you all can give. :)
