My East facing foyer is Gray Owl. It's an off white. This off white color spoke to me. It might be a gray, but most see it as a taupe when they come in.

It looks great with the white trim.

Do you need me to mail you any samples of paint?

Bee-That's funny, we probably have a lot of the same paint samples. Thanks for responding. I did try Gray Owl and probably will use it in my dining room. My Mom liked the sample of Gray Owl so much she is using it in her house. For my entry and family room though, I think I need a creamier white. I've never lived in a house this hard to pick colors for. Your house turned out beautifully by the way!!

Undoubtedly you have tried this, but have you looked at BM Linen White? It's very pretty. I was considering it for my master bedroom in last house and then I realized with only one window wall, the shadows that would be cast would not allow you to really see the color. I did a lot of testing. And had an aha moment.

All my trim is Simply White. What about the next color up on that strip, Moonlight White? There are many examples of this online if you Google--it looks gorgeous in person but is definitely "white". Or the next color up, which is Old Prairie (pale taupey greenish gray). I have the opposite problem (North/South facing, but not a lot of windows, everything reads blue, argh!). I wouldn't get too caught up in what you were "told". Only you have to live in the space so I say go with your gut! Are you feeling something yellow-y, taupe-y, or more gray? It sounds boring but BM Linen White is a classic for a reason, a rich white. I like BM Windham Cream for a buttercream color, but I am partial to that in general. There are a lot of grays but it really depends on what kind of undertone (green, blue, brown, purplish) you want.

Bee and Adanielo- Thanks for your suggestions, believe it or not I did not look at linen white. Well, I guess one more sample pot (or 2) won't hurt. ;) I think I will check those out tomorrow. I thought about moonlight white, but was worried it was too cool, maybe I need to reconsider. Appreciate the help :)

That Linen White looks gorgeous!

Happiest day in my nearly complete new home was pitching all the paint samples last week! It is really hard and every color I tried was like a chameleon room to room. The lightest color I ended up with was BM Collector's Item. Inside of garage was done a couple of weeks before interior of house and it is a beautiful light neutral. When our painter put some in our bedroom(over the bright white primer), DH did not believe it was same as garage. Anyway, it is beautiful as my trim, most ceilings and on walls in my north facing rooms.

You are doing the right thing by painting a small wall in the area/room. I learnt to do this after paying a painter to come and repaint my 2-story foyer three times!
