Filling grooves in dining table - which caulking material to use?

We have purchased a large square dining table made of rubber wood. It is finished in walnut-colored stain and has a grid pattern of 12"x12" grooves (about 2mm deep) that create a tiled look. The grooves are nice looking but alas, they accumulate crumbs and other food leftovers, so we must use a vacuum cleaner often...

We do not like to add a glass top, so I would like to fill these grooves with some black caulking material, that will maintain the tiled/inlaid look (rather than try to match the stain for a filled, smooth look). What caulking/filler material and technique should I use?
