Insert Marvin vs. full frame Pella replacement
Comments (1)pella windows will leak, stay away from them, there is a huge class action suit against them at the moment because they are leaking behind the aluminum cladding and rotting the windows marvin make a great product, also take a look at jeld-wen...See Moresplit frame vs. full frame window install
Comments (2)>>21 windows should equal 42 sashes. I don't get the 30. I should say 21 openings, some are double casement some are single, that's how the total of 30 came about. They usually quote for each casement. >>What are your existing windows? Wood or metal? D/H or other? They are all wood with double glazed glass panes, traditional casement windows. >>You know they do make wood replacement windows that are made to fit right in your existing openings. Wihtout reducing the visible glass size? May be that's what this split frame construction is all about. you have to forgive my ignorance. >>Split frame installation just to save the shutters? Very much so. After spending on the windows there won't be any money left to get new set of shutters. Vendor group B said that they can't gurantee that the shutters will fit after full frame install. Split frame is the only road to take. The will leave the jamb extension in place so that the shutters aren't disturbed....See MoreInserts or Full Replacement Windows?
Comments (4)Do you have any pictures? Both methods are options on nearly every project, it is more of an issue of the law of diminishing returns. IE: If you are replacing a substantial amount of wood (and incurring that expense) on the majority of windows, you may as well go to the full frame removal at that point. I few pieces of bad wood to be replaced on the other hand is not a huge deal....See MoreNeed help - Full replacement vs. Capping or pocket replacement
Comments (3)I'd agree with that as well. In this case, you will want to maintain uniformity. Todd's point on the fact that 15 year old homes are often not realistic candidates for a pocket replacement is very valid as well due to the type of products and installations used in that period. More generally speaking to your question though, the factors that would point to a full frame over pocket install are: 1) No option due to existing window style (ie: if existing windows are new construction vinyl) 2) Existing water leakage or questionable original installation 3) Substantial rot to the frame (not just the exterior trim pieces) 4) If light/visible glass is at a premium. This is common on homes that have few, or smaller windows to start with....See More- 14 years ago
