I finally got some time to watch the video. I have pretty good results growing under t8s both Streptocarpus and most AVs, and use t5s on Kohlerias and Sinningias. In this video the grower is talking about full spectrum T5 (probably Hortilux AgroVeg - the price she quotes is $50 a tube - which is outrageous - but these tubes actually less harsh than regular t5HO) She uses 3 shelves per shelving unit - about 24" between the shelves - makes sense for tall plants - but waste of light for low growing AVs. And we do not know for how many hours per day a day she has her light on. If we are looking at 48" shelves - these lights are excessive for AVs and almost too much for streps. I think these special AgroVeg lights are softer - that's why streps are not bleached. Regarding 24" long shelves. The shorter tubes are much less efficient than full lenghts tubes. So 2 t5s will work on these shelves on regular and dark leaves AVs. Light leaf AVs and species Saintpaulias need less light - so you either use 2 T8s - or increase the distance between the shelves to 18-20". You can play a bit with the time - if the leaves start hugging the pot - decrease the time. If they are reaching towards the light - add hours. Streptocarpus actually needs twice more light than AVs. http://imgur.com/a/vTXqD I've been growing an A. obesum and A. arabicum from seed under a 4x F54T5HO fixture with no natural light since 2010. I use 6500K tubes and mylar as a reflective backing. The plants are positioned about 6 inches from the lights. I find that if they get much closer then the internodal distance becomes too short and the leaves tend to burn.

I purchased an envirogro t5 (think its agrobrite? now) a few months ago and think its pretty nice for the price being my first one. It seems well built and has a great reflector. Ive changed the bulbs around a few times it came with 6400k i think, and I swapped them to 4 10,000k and 2 of the pink 5,000k and I seem to be getting some new growth now with my succulents under the light. I also have two t8 lights with 6500k daylight tubes they are much closer to the plants than the t5 but some are growing very well under the light. Hope your new lights work well for you.

T5-T5HO are good source of light. I would not buy it simply because of the cost of the frame - for the $ spent on whole thing you could buy min. 2x - T5HO, 4' lights. There is 4 tube (4') fixture on same page for almost same price. BUT if you don't have other means of hanging it, and like look of the frame, I guess you may have to...I would rather drill holes for hooks to hang them, or figure something else and buy 2, 3 or 4 lights - but that depends on your circumstances.
