Oh is she a beauty trailrunner! I'd be tempted to paint her multiple colors since she has flowers. Maybe pick a pale purple from those gorgeous plants! What are they, might I ask? Then paint the flower petals a deeper purple with yellow centers with the lattice areas white. I know sounds wild, but what a beauty she'd be. Wish I could photoshop her that way for you. Squirrel, where arrrre yooouuuuuu?

justgotabeme : those are Persian Shield. I hear that they are supposed to bloom but mine never have. I hope they come back next year...in FL they do but who knows up here.

I love your idea of the multiple colors , you have a LOT of faith in my ability to execute that plan LOL. What part would you do the white...everything inside the square including the lattice...and then the petals separate and then the center of the flower separate ? There are circles in the square area and then the lattice and then the petals and then the center of the flower...whew !! I bet there will be a blue streak in the air surrounding the glider !!

Purple (leave the flower areas white) to match your other outdoor chairs and table -- BUT add cushions with this ultra-cute outdoor polka-dot lime green fabric (and pom-pom fringe).

Perhaps use the fabric for a long seat cushion for the glider with a flirty "skirt" over the edge too?

I auto guys did a great job! How nice to have something ready to paint that you don't have to prep. I think any bright color would be beautiful - just pick your fav and go for it.

I'll do you a virtual later. I was gone longer than I thought today and I'm behind on my housework today. Still have things to put away. I've rearranged a bit and everything that I won't be using now is all over the place. But yes, I'd start doing the whole squares in white and add color over that. Get yourself some masking tape and craft paper or butchers paper for this job. :^D

periwinkle blue :)

Bright yellow, then make the flowers white petals with bright orange centers.

I painted my glider a sunny yellow - it makes me smile everytime I look at it....I made some toss pillows for it from from vintage 1930-40's floral print table clothes (with ball fringe) in reds, yellows, periwinkle blue, seafoam greens, etc.... I love it's vintage feel!

So I say paint it whatever color will make you smile everytime you look at it! And since it will be by a white and brick background, anything is going to work!

Here you go. I added green too. I hope you like it. I really do and I know Jen will! :^D

I couldn't sleep and was thinking about the glider and how to do it. I came up with the same idea...I will use parchment paper and trace the design and make stencils on heavy poster board and tape them on as I need them. I think it will work.

dlspellman : do you have pics ? I would love to see. I don't sew and would have to get someone else to do all that but I would love to see yours.

Lime and lilac>periwinkle blue are my favorite colors in the garden. Lime is going to make that walkway come alive, periwinkle or lilac is going to make it feel cool and refreshing. (That's what those colors do to me anyway. ;) Guess it all depends on the mood you're shooting for.

trailrunner, you know your house is one of my favorites ;) I'm dying to know what's between the bricks on your walkway. Just lovely. It looks like more than typical sand commonly used as grout in my area? Of course your ground probably doesn't freeze in subzero temps and cause bricks to hoove in winter, lol?

moonshadow. how sweet of you to say that. I agree that those colors will really pop. I am going to mull it over while I work on the porches.

If jgabm wants to do it in just 2 colors...periwinkle w/ white lattice and lime green w/ white lattice that would be great !! It will give me another perspective.

As to the brick, that is laid w/ standard mortar. I tried initially to lay the brick myself in M10, the crushed coarse sand but I didn't do it right and I took it all up and hired it done by a regular bricklayer. They dug footings etc and poured concrete and used the mortar. I now know what I did wrong and could possibly do it right but I am glad I have what I have. We do not get that cold here...20's but rarely and the ground does not freeze much at all. Thanks again for your sweet coments.

There you go Trialrunner. I put them all together so it would save you *some* scrolling. I guess I need to learn the two letter abreviations for all our states. I'm in NE aka Nebraska. North of Omaha. I do hope I can find and grow those Persian Sheilds. They are beautiful! We are trying to add color to our garden with perenials too. So if they work that way here, that would be awesome. I'd even grow them in pots and winter them indoors if I had to. Though I have no purple in any room inside. I'll make them work!
I knew you'd like it Jen! For a more conservitive person I can see either the perriwinkle or lime looking great too, but as conservitive as I am about most of my life, my heart belongs to color, color and more color! I love it!

Oh my...well I think the flowers have it LOL !! That is just so beautiful w/o being over the top. So now I have to get busy and finish the porches...started the big front porch this AM> huge job. Pics to follow...

Off to do errands and come home and start priming. I will think on how to do a template...if anyone has tips on how to make a stencil/pattern for this please let me know:)

Trailrunner, glad to have been of help. I hope I caught you before you leave since I just thought about how best to make the stencils. With clear contact paper! I'd start with the largest area of each part then work your way in. In other words, do the background color in pale purple. (Woulld it be cost prohibitive to have this painted by the car painter?) Let dry according to manufacturers instruction before using masking tape and craft or butcher paper to cover all areas that will stay pale purple. Once the masking is complete all that should show are the six squares. Spray paint them all white. Again follow drying instructions remembering that this time you'll be using contact paper as your mask. Though most is repositionable it may be more tacky than painters tape.
Now using contact paper cover squares completely overlapping the previous masked area. Make sure to press lightly into groves around the flowers. Using an X-Acto knife (I'd recommend the kind that have the itty bitty blade that turns) carefully cut everything but the areas to be left white , number and label (in the center) which petal is the top one (directional arrow) and save the cutouts by laying them on the leftover backing paper. Spray paint using lime green. Each sqaure should now look like they do on the lime and white glider. Let dry completely.
Carefully lay the left over cutouts back on the glider according to your labeling. Using exato knife, carefully cut our areas to be left green. Remove and save all other pieces on backing paper. Spray paint Purple. Let dry.
Carefully replace set aside contact stencils, this time cutting out the center areas for the flowers making sure to press edges of contact in place. Spray paint a happy yellow. Let dry completey.
Once dry remove all masking and enjoy!
I hope this makes sense. Here's a paint chart to help you with the back. The seat will be pretty much the same without all the detail of the flowers.

OK I Jgtbm : I had to read it 2x and then I GOT it. WOW you are a whiz. So where do I get clear contact paper...you can see I never get out ?? !! I have the perfect xacto ( I will borrow from DH haha ) and it will be so much better. Nope can't pay out anymore for this project so will be on my own. You should be able to pick up clear contact paper at Target, Wal Mart or anywhere the sells contact paper. I keep some handy for so many things around the house. It's great to protect paperback book covers.
