Comments (8)I think it depends upon what the mahogany looks like with the current semi-opaque finish removed. My stairs are mahogany and once we stripped them we decided that no stain was needed, just a protective finish. They are a medium tone slightly less orange than the Michael Taylor piece with no stain at all. If not, I would go no darker than light walnut or special walnut. The 1st dibs piece looks nice, but to me it looks like newer furniture with vintage hardware on it in that finish--to me it has lost something. I tend to be a purist of sorts though, and I think this piece, much like Heywood Wakefield, puts its best foot forward in the original finishes, even if refinished to duplicate the original....See MoreCan you help me pick color and accessories?
Comments (60)Hey guys, Just an update. I hired an interior decorator to redo the space. Not because your suggestions weren't good enough, they were amazing! I simply decided after the fact that I wanted to start from scratch, and felt having a designated person do it would speed up the process. The decorator gave me two different designs, and I'm moving forward with design two. I just wanted to thank everyone one of you again for helping me, and show y'all how it turned out. Comments (15)What color towels are you thinking? Not that you have to have settled on them yet, but is there a vision? If you plan white, but room is all grays and whites, I worry might in fact be too “cold. “ Unless you already have plans and places for special colorful art ( including greens and gray- greens as colors) and perhaps wood accessories or warmer colors. And while gray, white and black can often go with bright colors, some of your tones being considered aren’t in the direction- they’re a bit warmer and softer, which is quite nice.
