Cut-outs in the back of Base Cabinets

I'm currently installing base cabinet boxes and my initial thought for the electrical outlets (sink, cooktop and micro/oven cabinets) was that the face plates would cover up the cut-outs but due to the gap between the wall and the rear of the cabinets, I now realize that the outlets need to be on the wall face and the cut-outs large enough to be able to access the outlet. Is this correct? If so, any tips on "dressing up" the cutouts (something like flanged plates)? TIA...
