A bit off topic, but need to know if anybody has seen it before

This spring we replaced all of our windows with Loewen casements. About 20 openings in all (33 sashes). So far, we are very happy with the windows.

I noticed some straw/dry grass in between the window and the screen on several of our windows. When I opened them, I found a bunch of the material packed up in between the sash and the frame. Mixed in with the nesting material are a bunch of dead green bugs, some cocoons, and even a few grubs. (pictures available upon request email: darindinkler@yahoo.com)

There is evidence of this type of behavior on about 75% of our windows.

I'm perplexed.

It seems something is getting underneath the secondary seal and putting this material there. In my opinion, it is one of 3 alternative explanations...

1) The green (small grasshopper-like) bugs are nesting there, they have died and spun off the next generation.

2) Some birds are using that area as a food store and placing nesting materials and dead bugs there.

3) Another group of insects, such as wasps, are nesting there and storing the dead green bugs as food.

Has anybody come across this before?

If so, please tell me what can be done to stop it.

Thanks!
