Need help in buying a good quality patio door.
Comments (11)nydio, what are your priorities for the door? That will really dictate wood vs vinyl. I install both Marvin products, as well as Okna and some other vinyl lines, and the right answer really lies in what you want out of the door. If the rich feel of real wood is at the top of that list, it is hard to beat a wood door. If you want something very airtight and efficient, the high end vinyl lines are hard to beat. I will say that while I generally like the Integrity line as a reasonably priced wood interior option, I installed a sliding door recently that has a bit more air leakage than my client liked. Upon replacing a few parts, it improved a little bit, but ultimately it was determined that the performance was as expected. Conversely, some of the tighter sealing vinyl doors take a little more effort to operate due to all of the weatherstripping and tight tolerances. I'd recommend checking out some displays to really get a good idea of the look and feel... If by chance your primary reason for wanting a wood interior is the ability to match a stain color, Okna does have a stainable interior laminate as well. The Sunrise is another good vinyl door....See MoreNeed help covering sliding patio door.
Comments (5)We have vertical blinds on our patio door too - nothing fancy, but they are not closed often. The door faces SE, and in the winter we love that sunshine streaming in! As others pointed out, we can adjust the angle of the blinds to let in light while blocking direct rays....See MoreNeed Your Help Curtain for Sliding Patio Door?
Comments (4)I just replaced my vertical binds on a patio door with a double rod, sheer curtain in the back and blackout curtain in the front; I don't have an alcove like you, just the door frame. I got grommets on both, but I am thinking I will try to find another sheer w/ a rod pocket or something because the blackout curtain catches on the tops of the sheer, and I have to hold the sheer in place when opening the blackout curtain. My rod does sag a little because I couldn't use the middle support bracket, but it's not really noticeable. Fortunately the curtains are not very heavy; they are rather inexpensive ones I bought on walmart.com actually :), placeholders until I find something better. I would have hunted up a ceiling mount rod if I had room to fit it in the door frame, but I don't. Mine's wall mounted just like the blinds were. I went with the sheer and blackout so we have light and enough privacy during the day but can close the blackout if it gets really hot and/or need more privacy and when we go home (this is at a vacation home)....See MoreAnderson Patio sliding door with blinds in between panes -good or bad?
Comments (4)We've had three 45 " wide x 80" tall PELLA doors/windows with internal blinds - one sliding door flanked by two matching windows. I use them frequently. Up for full glass, down and flat, at a slant or fully closed depending on the sunlight. They've been in for almost 9 yrs. with no problems. I don't think changing the blind would be a problem, the interior glass is a panel that swings open if necessary. Very well insulated and they block exterior sound. And I don't have to dust them....See Morejocobe
