If it is a 120V 20A receptacle, one side will have a slot, the other will have a "T". Just a slot turned ninety degrees to the other is a 240V receptacle and will not work.

Just use a standard 15A duplex receptacle, it is all you will need.

Damn, I must be tired, I simply googled 20 amp receptacle and pasted that last link so I could post an example - obviously I poisted the wrong outlet. Here is a link to the receptacle type I REALLY put in, I am positive it is a 120 vold outlet - sorry for the confusion:

Anyway, since my refrigerator calls for a dedicated circuit, should I install the outlet I just posted above, or a standard double receptalce.

If I do install a double receptacle, and it is the ONLY receptacle on the circuit, does it need to be a 20 amp receptacle?

James, that receptacle is perfectly fine, and code required if it is the ONLY simplex receptacle on a 20 amp circuit.
If you did use a duplex you could have used a "standard" 15 amp version.

i am kind of curious now, being pretty new to electricity, you can use a 15 amp rec on a 20 amp cct? would the same apply to light switches if the cct is 20 amp but use a 15 amp switch?

Your standard 15A duplex receptacle is rated for up to 20A of current to pass through it. The slots are arranged (lack of the "T" slot you see on your 20A version) such that nothing that draws more than 15A can be plugged in to each individual space.

I am replacing a converter on my motor home. The old one was a 60 amp converter that used a 15 amp outlet. The new converter is 80 amp and requires a 20 amp outlet. Every 20 amp receptacle I look at uses screws to attach the wiring. The wiring that is going to connect up to this receptacle is actually two separate sets of wiring. There is no way that I will be able to put two separate wires around the screw. I notice the 15amp receptacle I am replacing does not use screws. It has channels that are a little over two inches long where the wires in these channels are not bent. They lay flat. I see on the old receptacle that it was manufactured by PS and it is a cat.no. SC-821. Anybody have any ideas on where I can get a 20 amp receptacle that does not require screws to attach the supply wires

I am not sure how this relates to the original post, but here goes.

Just use pigtails. These are short sections of wire spliced to the other two wires in the box. Then you end up with one wire on the device.
