Eagle v. Marvin?
Comments (4)My answer would stay the same. Most architects specify what they know best, and trust. It's not always the best for you, however. Marvin and Eagle both use Cardinal glass, as does Pella, Andersen and countless others. Each have their own specifications from Cardinal, so there will be subtle differences, but nothing too dramatic. As for pricing, it really depends on the market. If both have a strong market presence, then pricing will be close. If one is not strong in a certain area, it may not price as well in comparison. Integrity isn't even close to these two windows. They're a lot cheaper, but a different look altogether. I've seen both company's best up close, and both make a very high quality product. You'll be happy with either one, so long as the wood screens meet with your approval. I have not seen Eagles wood veneered screen yet, so I can't comment on it. Good luck....See MoreMarvin vs. Eagle -- windows & install
Comments (2)Usually I find it fairly easy to sort out the quality of the bidders. In this case they've all been in business for 10+ years (some for 30+) and describe the effort for the job fairly similarly. The only obvious differences is the one offering a 10 year warranty, and the formality of the bids, which varies as much as the prices, not does not align with the prices. I am planning to get additional quotes. Anyone have opinions on what's reasonable in the Boston area? thanks...See MoreEagle Windows or Marvin Integrity
Comments (10)Tempered/Safety glass requirement on a Double hung window. We have a couple windows less than 18" from the floor. However the way we are reading the code we woudl not need tempered glass. As we do not meet all 4 requirements under Section 7 or R308.4 ( The square footage of the individual pane is less than 9 sq ft) or are we reading this wrong. We have asked our Marvin dealer without any reply and have also reached out to our Architect as he did not denote the windows to require Tempered Glass Is each Sash is own individual pane or do both sash's get added together?...See MoreMarvin Windows my house full of rotted frames need to replace them.
Comments (47)Hi, E Weiss, It looks like you've got a lot of responses to sift through! I just wanted to chime in and ask if you've considered other window materials? I think wood is beautiful but you're right they are pretty expensive especially when you want to replace all the windows in a house or building and without regular/frequent maintenance they won't last long. Even aluminum or fiberglass cladded aluminum windows eventually need to be replaced because water/moisture can find its way behind the cladding. I think I read that you're in an area that experiences lots of rain or snow? If you would consider something other than wood I would recommend looking for a fiberglass window vendor. A quality fiberglass window can outperform a quality vinyl and will certainly outperform an aluminum window. They'll also last longer than wood windows with much less maintenance. I can't recommend any specific product line for you, we're in Texas and used to sell Milgard's Ultra Series but Milgard was acquired by another company and they've left the state. Milgard may have also stopped selling the fiberglass Ultra series. It looks like fiberglass-windows.com suggests Marvin, Milgard, Fibergrame, and Pella as fiberglass window manufacturers. Good luck with your replacement project! - Ariana...See Moreemmachas_gw Shaffer
