Marvin Aluminum wood Clad windows VS Eagle
Comments (9)We're in the process of building and just had our Marvin Ultimate casements installed. They are gorgeous. The Eagle quote we received was around $4000 less than the Marvin. If I recall correctly, most of the price difference was in the french doors (four pairs with sidelights, one pair without). The window prices were pretty comparable. What swayed us to the Marvins was the better exterior finish and the fact that the Marvin dealer in our area was VERY helpful. The Eagle dealer -- uh, not so much....See MoreCost of Marvin Ultimate vs. Marvin Integrity
Comments (8)windowshopper- I don't know if the dealers will compete. I have about the same number of windows as you, 3 of them are arched casements, plus 7 sets of French doors (5 of them are stationary). I was told that Integrity didn't make the arched windows I needed & I would need to go with Marvin Ultimate for those. I consulted with 4 different dealers-everyone had a different price and no one was willing to compete. One of them deals pretty much just with Marvin & he was the highest of the bunch! When I tried to negotiate and let him know he was significantly higher than other dealers and frankly he was even higher than the quote I got from Pella (which was through the roof), his response was he may not be the least expensive, but I was paying for quality. Quality? No matter where I get the Integrity, it's the same window quality, right? My framer is installing, so installation quality doesn't enter into it. Then he tried to talk me into all Marvin Ultimate because using Ultimate for the 3 arched windows & Integrity for everything else just wouldn't look right. When I let him know there was no way I could afford all Ultimate, he again went on and on about quality & making room for them in the budget. Obviously, he had an agenda & it didn't match mine. With that being said, one dealer is working with the area Integrity rep to see what they can do about getting a better deal especially on the French doors. They came in about double the cost of Jeld-Wen Siteline, M&W Mira & M&W Freedom 800, and just above the Pella Architect price. The windows were all less expensive than the Siteline, Mira, and Pella. We shall see what they come up with! But absolutely nothing wrong with shopping around--if you don't ask for a better deal, you can't expect them to voluntarily offer you one. Let me know how things go & if you find a dealer with rock bottom Integrity & Ultimate pricing!...See MoreMarvin or Eagle Replacement Windows??
Comments (23)To Jamie, just to inform you Eagle is a window manufacturer, they do not come to your house and produce quotes. The sizes came from who ever was your salesman/contractor or installer. They measured wrong, then had to eat the custom made windows when they came in. Then had to reorder the right size windows. NO WAY would they have come in (expedited) that adds another 30% to the cost and your contractor was not going to eat that. On the Eagle replacement window they are ordered a bit different than a vinyl replacement window, and someone learned a hard lesson. Please don't blame Eagle unless you know what you are talking about. We have been selling them for 30 + years and never had an order problem from Eagles side. Just OUR order sheet.........See MoreTrimming out a Marvin Integrity window
Comments (3)Will the windows be installed over sheathing and some kind of siding overlapping the nailing fin or will they be inset in a brick opening? The Infinity window frame is intended to mimic a brick moulding and if installed without additional trim, although it doesn't do a very good job of it. Since a brick mounding is tapered in thickness from the edge on the window side to the edge on the siding/brick side, adding it to a modern window would appear redundant unless it is brought out to the face of the frame by installing it over a 1 inch (+/-) thick flat moulding which would make the brick moulding protrude more than the siding (and possibly the brick). This is obvious if you look at the window frame in a showroom. An Eagle aluminum clad window frame looks more like a brick moulding IMHO....See Moretforgione1
