Marvin Aluminum wood Clad windows VS Eagle

I am starting a new construction in a few weeks. I am torn with the Marvin windows. I love the Ultimate series and trying to shop around for a lower price then what was qouted. I have seen the integrity line as well. We went to look at Eagle aluminum clad this weekend and they seem to be comparable to the integrity line. I have not received my qoute for Eagle yet. I have 34 windows in my house and the ultimate windows is putting me at approxiamtely $40,000. Integrity at around $28,000. Is this about it? Does anyone have concerns with Marvin or Eagle windows?

IMO, Marvin makes the very best wood window in America, the fit and finish is unbeatable.

The Eagle is a very good window as well with heavy gauge aluminum cladding, and a lot of color options.

Marvin's Infinity window is a great option. Very attractive product with a strong warranty.

Either product will make for a great window system. Since you will have to make the investment either way; in 20 years the home will be glad you went with a premium product.

Both Marvin and Eagle are Premium wood lines.

I am not sure that Fiberglass is "greener" or more efficient and that also depends on what you are comparing it to. Fiberglass with have better thermal numbers than even a thermally broken aluminum. I would not eliminate a Aluminum clad wood (I think that is what you Weathershield option is) window from your selection options if you decide you want to another option. All things considered, you are going to have a hard time matching the aesthetics or build quality of that Marvin Integrity. Biggest issue with that window is the stock size program. That is a moot point in a new construction application because you can build it to whatever you need it to fit. That would be my choice if I were building right now.

Last year we replaced five picture windows with Marvin extruded aluminum exterior, wood interior windows. Our previous thermal windows had fogged and were a mess. At this same time we re-sided the house with HardiPlank concrete siding. The extruded aluminum matches exactly the shade of paint we were using and the windows blend in well. My husband stained and sealed the wood interior of the windows and says the quality is excellent. One large pane arrived with a few scratches, we complained, Marvin came out and replaced the window. No problem. And they were fast. We have 5 more windows to install, we should start in a few weeks. We need to replace some plain exterior wooden entry doors, they are a mess. We are thinking of going fiberglass, or will go with Marvin if they have an aluminum outside/wood inside, which I am not sure they do. The dealer in Knoxville, TN., gave us a great price on the windows, Marvin Planning Center, Sam Ledford was our contact. We still have not met him, we ordered by email(as we live 1 1/2 hrs. out of town) and picked up some of the windows and had the larger ones delivered. Why don't you just contact a few dealers and ask them to come out, get some measurements, look at what you want done, talk to you about the diferent options that are available and then work up an estimate based on what you want rather than trying to get pricing on the internet? Most dealers I know are pretty honest and really do want to help you make the right choice. Why don't you give them a chance to help you?

Re: Painting aluminum, most reps I talked to say it voids the warranty, b/c you have to sand the aluminum to get the paint on, apparently and that interferes with the finish, so it voids the warranty on their finish, whatever that means. I have widened the possibilities to Eagle, Loewen, Pella's Architect and Marvin. Pella was too expensive for what I wanted. The rest were competitive in price, even though it had to be custom size for Eagle and standard for Marvin and Loewen. Pella had to be custom, so I am assuming that's why it was so expensive. Marvin also has a shorter lead time of 4-6 weeks vs Eagle and Loewen had to be 8-9 weeks. So, I am inclined to go with Marvin, but I haven't seen any of these windows in person yet, so I am worried about looking at just one and deciding. Thanks afsa. I researched and Eagle has many faults. Leakage seems to be the problem with the windows. Trying really hard to get Ultimate windows at a more affordable price.

We're in the process of building and just had our Marvin Ultimate casements installed. They are gorgeous. The Eagle quote we received was around $4000 less than the Marvin. If I recall correctly, most of the price difference was in the french doors (four pairs with sidelights, one pair without). The window prices were pretty comparable. What swayed us to the Marvins was the better exterior finish and the fact that the Marvin dealer in our area was VERY helpful. The Eagle dealer -- uh, not so much.

The Ultimate is an excellent window but comes at a hefty price.

It is worth every penny if you want wood, but they are a lot of pennies and that is a contractor telling you that we pay a whole lot for them.

Thank you soo much Nutherokie & Windowsonwashington. I am deciding to go with the Ultimate Marvin windows. I think thery are gorgeous as well. Now I have different Marvin Dealers marking their prices down (not substantially) to get my business. Keeping my fingers crossed.

To windowsonwashington, yes to both. We are installing them to make installation goes right and it is for new construction.
