kitchen cabinet crown molding

I plan to install crown mold on the upper cabinets that are the same depth, but have different height. I am wondering how to terminate the molding on the lower cabinet when I have a raised cabinet that is the same depth as the lower one. So, the transition or ending of the lower cabinet molding into the raided one.

If you try and leave it flush, it will have an airgap, interfere with the door and generally look unpleasing.

The only thing I have seen is to put a small piece in at the end that has a 22.5 and then a 45 to go flush and you have to back that with a kick plate. I have a picture if someone wants to see it. It looks good, but the cut looks very tricky. This is 38/52 crown and I am looking for other approaches. Any help is appreciated.
