Plug? Never heard of that. The Hunter type 2 has four wires, ground (green), white (neutral), black (fan), black with stripe (light). The only connector I know about connects the light kit to the base of the fan, you aren't supposed to be making connections there, just connect it to the mating one. Do you have the entire fan kit (and has he bothered to READ the instructions)?

Help! I'm looking for a wall mounted toggle switch that can remotely control two or three separate outlets. I can find remotes that control three outlets but I'd really like a toggle switch that turns out two outlets at the same time!

If you have power running to the wall box, upgrading to three switches should be relatively easy if you don't exceed the box fill with the number of wires. However, sometimes lights are wired so that power goes to the light fixture, and the wall switch is simply a switch loop (no power at the switch). With a switch loop you are just "switching" the black wire, so you usually have the black (or red) from the light fixture connected to one side of the switch and the white from the light fixture (colored by black marker) connected to the other side of the switch. Essentially, the black and white wires are being used as if they are two blacks with a switch in the middle, which is why you color the end black. FYI - 2011 code requires a neutral wire at the light switch (a functional white wire, not a white wire colored black for a switch loop), so when running new wire you should run power to the switch first. This is apparently needed to make some of the new electronic switches (occupancy sensors, etc.) operate properly, because they need a small constant current for the switch's stand-by power. Bruce

I would join all the like colors together, and see if that works. Sorry, that's not such a great strategy where a 3-way switch is involved. Wiring requires a lot more than just matching wire colors. It's not uncommon to open a box and find a white wire and black wire connected together, especially in an older house, and it's not a mistake. To make this work the way the OP wants, he needs to connect two wires together, and leave one wire in the box disconnected and capped with a wirenut. His problem is to determine which ones to connect and which one to cap. I can't see inside the box as well as I'd like to, so it's possible that I'm not seeing something. Or maybe my brain has skipped a gear. But what I think I see in the photo doesn't seem to be normal wiring for a 3-way switch. In a j-box for just a 3-way switch, I expect to see 2 cables entering the box. One will be 3 wires plus ground (red, black, white, bare) and the other will be 2 wires plus ground (black, white, bare). From the latter cable, the black wire goes to the switch common terminals. From the former one, the red and black go to the switch traveler terminals. The white wires are tied together. That's not what I'm seeing here. With more information from the OP maybe we can figure this out.
