DH wanted them, I didn't. We actually had the cans in (4 in each the GR and MBR) but even the electrician agreed they would not only ruin the look of the room, but with the roof pitch, the light would not be thrown directly to the floor (even using cans meant for sloped ceilings - the pitch was different). He removed them before the drywall was started. In both the GR and MBR we have four metal sconces that throw light up/down. We use them and two lamps in the GR at night when it's just us. If we have company and want a brighter room, there are two more lamps and the great room receives light from the DR/Foyer/Kitchen. You can see one of the sconces lit in picture #7 and two unlit in #16. I just noticed your moniker. I'm sorry you hate building - we thoroughly enjoyed the experience and I was just recently trying (just a tad) to talk DH into building again! We've been the only house on our street for two years and two new houses have just started construction. We do have 4.5acres so it's not like our old neighborhood but we were used to the seclusion.

Yes and yes. :) We matched finished colors to the different types of wood, so everything is the same shade. The doors/trim/windows are all SW Walnut Wainscott. The cedar beams (inside and out) are Minwax Early American. The spruce T&G ceilings on the verdandas are a 50/50 mix of the two. Two bathrooms have mahogny cabinets with a dark glaze, two more and the laundry have cream cabinets with a soft glaze (all by Jim Bishop Cabinetry). All countertops are limestone. Powder room has a wall mounted copper sink. The kitchen cabs I had made in England. Three sections are pine with a medium/dark stain, the coffee station is black, the fridge/pantry section is cream and the island is F&B French Grey. All are distress/glazed, finished on site. Hood trim and island countertop are antique pine. coffee station is new pine. Rest of kitchen and laundry are granite. Be sure to see a door in person before you order. We had our window supplier bring over a door from Atlanta. It was $100+ more per door than the ones we ended up getting and was SO thin, didn't feel like a nice quality door, weight wise, and sounded hollow when I knocked on it. Hi nostalgicfarm. Our floors are #2 grade oak. I wanted a lot of knots, but the dang installers cut most of them out! They are stained Dark Walnut (I think) and finished with tung oil. The trim is pine stained Sherwin Williams Walnut Wainscot. We currently have five inside pets; three cats and two dogs (54lbs and 10lbs). The floors have held up great. No scratches. Easy to clean. Most of the house is painted a warm white (looks much brighter in photographs) so it balances the wood doors, flooring, windows and beams. My youngest daughter has Anderson Hickory Forge in Ringing Anvil. She has four dogs, two cats, one 2yo. It is gorgeous and since it is literally hand scraped (not machine) there's no pattern. It has held up better than I imagined. The few places I've seen have been in the grooves (vacuum wheels?), and she just goes over with a felt tip staining pin, followed by paper towel to wipe up any extra. Thank you! I do love my kitchen... the entire house and setting really, and pinch myself daily. lol The granite is honed Golden Leaf. This is the only picture I could find on Photobucket: I have it on either side of the range and the pine hutch (left of fridge). We also put it in the laundry room, you can see it in the first picture (upper left) on AtticMag. There, it is on cream cabinets, glazed. Looks great on the cream too. I can take another picture, but it will be tomorrow before I can post. Let me know if this one isn't big enough for you to tell. I looked at all the ranges out there. Went with the GE, but wasn't because it was less. But because I liked it the most! Have been very happy with it. No problems, other than a recall early on and they repaired quickly. I really like having the smaller oven. Use it daily. I've never had 2 ovens, 6 eyes or gas - love them all. Yes, I would choose it again, unless a French range was in my budget! lol Actually, I considered splurging on one, but was worried about repairs - could I really get it repaired when/if needed kind of thing. Oh, and I love LOVE the griddle. Makes THE best pancakes! Thanks again. Good luck with your kitchen.
