Andersen 200 Series as insert?

Does anyone know if removing the nail flange on the 200 series would basically result in a 400 series insert style window? It seems both have the 3 1/4" jamb, so I was thinking they may be the same basic frame and such with lower cost glass options?

You could insert it into a new opening and install it as you would a higher end wood window but NO it cannot be used as a true insert window. The frame and sill construction is completely not suitable for this type of application

What 200 series window are you looking at that is 3 1/4" ?

Interesting info.. I was told that the energy efficiency of the 200 was pretty much the same as the 400 when you get the option of low e on the 200 series.. Unless you mean that all Andersen windows have crappy energy efficiency.. Will have to look into this more.. As far as looks go we were happy with the way the 200 series looked when we saw it in person.. They had the American Craftsmen on display at home depot as well and we saw the windows that had the vinyl interior which we found to look extremely cheap.. We definitely want a wood interior...

Andersen Sliding Glass Doors- 100 Series or 200 Series

It seems this may not be a common question, so I'll share what I have figured out in case anyone else comes looking on this forum. I finally found a distributor who had a 100 series sliding door in their showroom that I could look at. It is a clear step down in how smooth the glide is from the 400 series. It doesn't roll with the ball bearings, and has the look/feel of an entry level door (which is what Andersen calls it, so I guess that is fair). I have not yet found a 200 series Narrow Line door that I can test out. My local Home Depot has a 400 series door, the one a little farther away has a Perma-shield door, but no narrow line. If anyone wants to chime in and comment on the functionality of a Narrow Line 200 series door, I would appreciate it! Thanks!

The 100 is hollow if I am not mistaken. https://www.andersenwindows.com/products/100-series-gliding-patio-door/ Both should work just fine from a functionality standpoint. Get the one that you like the look of at the end of the day though. You are, after all, going to be staring at it for years to come.

@ millworkman- Thanks for the clarification. Advice on other inserts than the 400? It seems a bit pricy for the quality. Not married to double hung.... but not sure if any price advantage of single hung?

You have to look at the section drawing below to see that it is 4 3/8" deep. Insert windows are designed to fit between the exterior trim and the inside stops/stool.

Plus the Tilt-Wash has a flat sill - so it wouldn't sit right on an existing sloped sill.

Suggestions on 400 vs the composite by Andersen or other manufactures?

When I replaced my windows I think Woodwright was the only Andersen insert option. It now looks like you can get Tilt-Wash inserts and also a 100 Series window that can be installed as an insert - is that what you mean by "composite by Andersen"?

I was looking for wood interiors. Marvin Ultimate was my first choice but they were a little too expensive for my budget. Andersen Woodwright was a close second and I have been very happy with them. I also looked at Harvey but the quality was a big step down from Marvin and Andersen.

I didn't talk to Pella or Renewal by Andersen just because I didn't like their sales approaches.

Can't comment on the Andersen 100 Series or other options - but I'm sure others will!

Me too, on the 3 1/4" jamb. How are you measuring that?

The Andersen 100 is the builder version of the Fibrex framed Renewal windows. 10 yr warranty max. That about says it all.
