I can't compare Andersen with Pella or any others, or the 200 series v. the 400 series, but I bought Anderson double hung windows and a sliding door, and I am sorely disappointed in them. I paid a LOT, esp. or the door. I had no choice but to get the top of the line because I had to get the bronze exterior color. The screens on the windows are flimsy. The hangers for the screen sliding door are plastic and break all the time. I've had problems with a new lock I installed on the sliding doors in December since December…. I would not buy Andersen again. But for all I know, the others are the same. I and so anti-corporate America right now. The greed is out of control; the mentality of cutting on quality in order to increase profits is anathema to me, but that's what they're doing, everywhere.

It seems this may not be a common question, so I'll share what I have figured out in case anyone else comes looking on this forum. I finally found a distributor who had a 100 series sliding door in their showroom that I could look at. It is a clear step down in how smooth the glide is from the 400 series. It doesn't roll with the ball bearings, and has the look/feel of an entry level door (which is what Andersen calls it, so I guess that is fair). I have not yet found a 200 series Narrow Line door that I can test out. My local Home Depot has a 400 series door, the one a little farther away has a Perma-shield door, but no narrow line. If anyone wants to chime in and comment on the functionality of a Narrow Line 200 series door, I would appreciate it! Thanks!

Get the one that you like the look of at the end of the day though. You are, after all, going to be staring at it for years to come.

We're using 100s as the baseline for many homes. We've had a great 25 year history with Anderson and this product is competitive with vinyl pricing. The next level we work with typically is double this price. "If you go with (any product) make sure you follow installation instructions to a T." Any product. Windows, doors, tile, appliances, etc. We purchase windows from an installing dealer when ever possible. It might cost more or surprisingly less but prevents the finger pointing. Random independent installers who don't read manufacturer's specs are common. Your GC?.
