Dividing long living dining room combo

Hello, I have been trying to solve this problem for 20yrs. I finally signed in to Gardenweb in hope I can get some good ideas. This is my first post, so bare with me. We remodeled an old house and we were left with a bit of a strange configuration. When you step in house you are in a small (10x7)entry way that opens into a long room narrow living and dining room combo(14x40). The left side of the room I am using as the living room. But it is basically a pathway to the breakfast/kitchen. Not very formal. The far right is a dining room that is basically never used. There are 2 pieces of furniture that must stay in room. One is a small upright piano and the other is a glass curio unit. How would one divide this space? I was thinking of columns with see through shelves to divide dining and living room. But can't find place for piano or curio. I will send pic's if they would help. THanks for any help you can offer.

Lisa
