Kindness From Guys

Ok, I know I asked for someone else to post a thread celebrating kindness & thoughtfulness shown by guys, boys, men, but I thought of something.

One day when I was about 15 (I got my driver's license at 14, which the state of Texas no longer allows, shudder), I was running errands for my mother on a very rainy day when the car broke down.

I knew I'd be in big trouble if I didn't get my errands done, & I was afraid that I'd done something to mess up the car, in which case I'd be in even bigger trouble.

I called from a gas station, but nobody answered the phone at home.

The car was still in the street, & people were driving slowly around it...but not stopping.

I was so scared I didn't know what to do.

A nice man, younger than my father but old enough to have kids, stopped his car, ran across the street to the gas station & asked me if he could push my car into the parking lot for me.

He went into the street & got traffic flowing around the car, retrieved his car, & used it to push my car into the parking lot.

He opened the hood, looked around, & reassured me that the problem was just wet wires (or cables, or something, it's been a long time), & all I needed to do was to let them dry out & tell my father to replace them when he had time.

He had taken time out of his day, he had gotten soaking wet, he had grease all over his hands, & still he smiled & nodded, &, just like The Lone Ranger, he waved & drove off & out of my life.

That was over 40 years ago, & I still remember it & I still am grateful, & I still hope that all women & girls should find such help when they need it.
