My husband & I have been twice and have loved both times! However, we live in central Indiana so we started the first time in KY and went to the middle of TN. Last year we drove the interstate to TN and came back north. We have brought home many treasures and at very good prices - there's something for everyone! Most dealers were eager to haggle over prices too! However, beware, Route 127 for miles has no lodging and what there is most is booked up. Take food and drinks. For us, the trip both times was worth the money & time as we don't take regular vacations. We love looking at other people's junk and love the thrill of finding something unique. You can stop at one place and spend a couple hours and then go for miles before finding another site. But, if you like junking for your garden, you will absolutely love this opportunity. By the way, I've been reading this site for weeks and have never posted and I just love all your garden junking ideas. You all inspire me so!

Sounds like a blast! We have done the 100 Mile Garage Sale along the Mississippi River in Wisconsin and Minnesota. I have found lots of great stuff ... and even better stuff that was left at the curb for free! That one is the first weekend in May. My husband isn't too fond of going for some reason despite his love of junk and yard sales. I think he hates when we meet up with a bunch of friends and we try to stick together in separate cars and fail miserably. he-he Maybe I can talk him into it next year.

The world's longest yard sale, is just awesome.. you can go all the way from Ohio to Al. on side roads so you are not on main interstates.. we live in Kentucky and we only went about 75 miles and it was all along route 27 in Kentucky and most along the Ohio River.. you will go into Covington Kentucky coming over the bridge from Ohio and there are some really neat places that have some neat items.. then you will hit some of the rural areas.. some of the fields will have many vendors in it, there are lots of bed and breakfast along the way to stay over night in or route 27 is not that far off the main interstate. you can find motels and hotels .. make sure you wear something that is cool and good shoes. When we went it was really hot out.. so take along some water in your vehicle to drink. do not pay the first price you see on the item.. many will bargin with you... as the sale comes to a close you will get better bargins.. go and have fun.. I have been watching it now for years on HGTV and they all seem like they are having a ball.. Good Luck.

About Yard sales: Its a good place to pick up "old" pyrex glass ware. The old stuff is superior to that of later manufacture. I don't recall the exact date, do an on-line search to find out, it may have been in the 1970s when Corning sold their glassware business. They sold the Pyrex trademark, designs, and molds. The new maker continued to make baking ware with the pyrex symbol, but decided the original glass was too expensive. They changed to a lower performing glass and covered their bases with some instructions in the product package. Once, the packing material is gone, the danger begins. The old pyrex formulation had a very low index of thermal expansion within the temperature range of normal cooking processes. It could withstand a certain amount of thermal shock without shattering - Not so with the newer material. The new stuff is not much better than ordinary glass and will shatter if cold water hits a hot dish. Also, it will shatter if a cold dish is placed on a flame (spot heating). Go for the old pyrex; Its the good stuff. The country of manufacture may be a clue for sorting the old from new.
