The buffet/sideboard, although it is huge, tall and isn't used for serving.

I suggest using the same shape as the chandelier shades in either black/gold, black/ivory or just ivory. Black would go with the chandelier shades and the plates or ivory would go with the trim color and the shades in the adjoining room. I think keeping the shape consistent with the chandelier will add some continuity.

Also, I just love the plates on your buffet / sideboard.

Thank you for the nice words. Those"plates" btw, are large trays, about 30" in diameter. Everything looks small in the picture but irl, it's all oversized.

I did, of course, consider similar black shades but thought it might be too much black or too matchy matchy. From this vantage point, ivory bells are visible and the pendants in the kitchen are white glass bells.
The lamps haven't arrived yet.

Bumble, I'm being selfish here. Is that buffet pine? Can you show us a pic where we can see the whole thing, as I just love pine! Is it old?

Are the lamps the Leviton pair in this link that you bought last weekend? As far as I know, Leviton makes lighting components, such as the switch, but they do not make lamps, so look for another name on them when you get them. They are a great style.

Believe me when I say that all on this board have great ideas, and this may be just me, but I'd have to try several shades 'in person' on the lamps to find the best one. I have a serious lamp fetish. :-) I bought an older Frederick Cooper that needs help during 'our' lamp search last Saturday! Can't wait for it to arrive to resuscitate it.

If you have a NICE brick and mortar lighting store nearby, please take them there to get a good opinion on the size and style of shade. I am blessed with TWO very good lighting stores within 10 miles, and the staff is highly trained and wonderful at getting the perfect shade. I hope you have one nearby.

You all are making me feel better...I seem to be the master of things that are fake that look good in pictures.
The buffet is pine but not thick pine and it's not old. I originally saw it on Horchow 17 years ago then went on a hunt to find it.

It has some, uhmmm, plastic carving that lately I have been thinking of ripping off but in general without close inspection, it's a nice piece.

The lamps came today. I don't know, they look like yard sale lamps to me, but then I don't have the knack.
I can haul them to a lamp/shade shop and will probably do so if I use them. But I still need direction :-)

What do you think?

If the lamps look like 'yard sale lamps' and you don't like them, I see that the seller takes returns withing 30 days, although you pay shipping. DON'T keep 'em if you aren't in love, and use the least expensive shipping to send them back.

You don't necessarily need TWO on there, as you have some other beautiful things on the buffet. Maybe the Frederick Cooper one you bought will bring you to your knees with its beauty, so find the perfect shade for that one, and 'bee' very happy!

Are the borders of the hanging trays black? Do you have other accents that are black? I would opt for black drum shades rather than trying to match up what's on the chandelier~I'm not into matchy, but that's just me. Anyway, try bringing a little more black into the room if you do black shades. It adds a dramatic flair, IMHO.

As for your lamps, I love them!! Yard sale? No way!! To see real brass and not resin makes my heart sing. Treat them as the statement pieces they are. ;o)

I think I am going to try the lamps out at least, 3dogs, the FC one is designated for another spot entirely and btw, I think Leviton did make lamps. It's stamped on the socket.
here is the one my mother bought 25 years ago and still looks good, it's on my bedroom dresser. I am currently trying out the shade on another lamp so didn't bother to go get it for the pic. This is the burglar lamp, it weighs a ton!

I also have a Leviton double candle stick lamp in the basement that I cannot find a spot for it that's perfect.

Patty, the tray edges are black and there is quite a bit of black in the room, the kitchen bar chairs are black and the countertop is black. The trays are 20" in diameter, I measured. :-)

I"ll post a picture with the lamps in place. I think I need two as the mantel on the other side of the table is an asymmetrical arrangement but maybe not, not with two trays?

Love the one you mother gave you, Bee! Leviton made the socket on that one.

The few people on eBay who are selling 'Leviton Lamps' are calling them that as Leviton is stamped on the socket.

I have bought many of their parts to make lamps, such as the sockets, but if you go to Leviton.com, and click on products, you'll see that they make many types of components, but not lamps themselves

Well, Bee, I hope you aren't disappointed. It's not my usual style, but for $10.99, I know I'll have fun with it.

Picture it cleaned up, with a different background, (this is one of the eBay pics) a perfect shade, and perhaps on my mantel next to the 27" x 38" antique mirror below.

If all goes according to plan, I'll pick up the mirror in southern Maine tomorrow, and take my 'Mum' to lunch at Stonewall Kitchen's cafe in York! Mirror pics are from the CL ad.

Yes, my house is full! My carpenter friend built me a rack to safely store all of the mirrors rotating from my decor in. Mirrors and lamps...Two of my favorite things, IF the price is right!
